MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State sophomore left-hander Jordan Wicks was selected as D1Baseball.com's 2020 Summer Breakout Prospect Award winner following his stellar summer season, the publication revealed Thursday.
Wicks, the 2019 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, split his time this summer between the Rockford (Illinois) Rivets of the Northwoods League and Perfect Timing Red of the Perfect Timing College League in Springdale, Arkansas.
In four starts with the Rivets, the Wildcat southpaw went 2-0 with a 0.45 earned run average (1 ER, 20 IP) and 29 strikeouts. Wicks held opponents scoreless over his final 16 1/3 innings of work, allowing just six base hits while racking up 23 strikeouts in that span.
In his final start of the summer, he held the La Crosse (Wisconsin) Loggers hitless over five innings with eight strikeouts. He punched out a season-high 10 batters over five frames in a 2-1 win over Fond du Lac (Wisconsin) on July 16.
While with Perfect Timing Red, Wicks was 1-0 with a 0.61 ERA (1 ER, 14.2 IP) and 23 strikeouts in four starts. The Conway, Arkansas, product struck out 17 over his final 12 innings before moving onto the Northwoods League.
Wicks, who is eligible for the 2021 MLB Draft, boasted a combined ERA of 0.52 to go with 52 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings in summer ball.
Prior to the 2020 spring season being canceled, Wicks made four weekend starts for the Cats and allowed just one earned run over his 26 innings (0.35 ERA). He went 3-0 in those four outings and began his sophomore campaign with a scoreless streak of 24 2/3 innings with a tallied 26-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Wicks' strong 2020 seasons catapulted him up to the 15th-ranked college prospect, according D1Baseball.com
The Wildcats ended the 2020 campaign with a record of 10-7, winning seven of their final nine games in head coach Pete Hughes' second season.
