IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Kansas State women's tennis team made their mark on day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex on Thursday (October 21).

"Today was a good day. I am happy with having a clean day, so that was a good start," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "We started a little slowly taking care of business, but we put ourselves in a good position as the tournament progresses."

In her first ITA Central Regional, freshman Dinara Alloyarova won her first-round match against Ines Absisan from Omaha in two sets 6-0, 6-1. Alloyarova followed up her victory against Absisan with a second-round two set win against Creighton's Siri Kongara 6-4, 6-3.

"I am pleased with Dinara getting through qualifying and qualifying for the main draw, then being able to come back and win a great doubles match with Manami. That was very impressive for her," said Smith.

After having a bye in the first round of the doubles draw, seniors Anna Turco and Rosanna Maffei took down Caitlyn Sporing and Melissa Vizcardo from Southern Illinois – Edwardsville 6-2.

Seniors Maria Linares and Karine-Marion Job clinched a 6-3 victory against Bradley's Maria Bezmenova and Madalena Andrade.

It was a tough doubles match for freshman Florentine Dekkers and senior Ioana Gheorghita, but the Wildcats came out with a win against Daniela Hlacikova and Myroslava Zelenchuk from SEMO 7-6(4).

Also coming off a first round bye was Alloyarova and sophomore Manami Ukita. The pair defeated Bradley's Kirstin Hailey and Sandra Maletin 6-0.

A round of 32 doubles will start day two on Friday (October 22) at 8 a.m. CT. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex at the University of Iowa. The doubles round will be followed by a round of 128 main draw singles and then a round of 64 main draw singles.
