MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2021 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 16 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Dallas Cowboys
Burton is on the Cowboys' practice squad during his fourth NFL season. Dallas, which is 5-1 this season, was off last week and travels to face Minnesota on Sunday night.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, who is in his sixth NFL season and fifth with Pittsburgh, and the Steelers had their bye last week. Entering week 8 with a 3-3 record, Pittsburgh travels to face AFC North foe Cleveland on Sunday.
Wyatt Hubert, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
A seventh-round draft pick by Cincinnati in this year's draft, Hubert was hurt during the offseason and is on injured reserve. The Bengals improved to 5-2 on the year via a 41-17 victory at Baltimore. Cincinnati travels to face the New York Jets on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – Cleveland Browns
Lee, who is in his second season with Cleveland, was in for 16 special teams plays to help the Browns earn a 17-14 victory over Denver on Thursday night. Lee has four defensive tackles and a special teams stop this year. Improving to 4-3 on the season, Cleveland hosts Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett, who started for the 78th time in his career, made two catches for 12 yards in Seattle's 13-10 Monday night home loss to New Orleans. It was the Seahawks' third-straight setback, dropping to 2-5 on the season. In seven games this year, Lockett has 29 receptions for 437 yards and three touchdowns. Seattle will look to snap that skid by hosting Jacksonville on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Washington Football Team
Lucas, who is in his second year with Washington and eighth in the NFL overall, made his second-straight start and 24th of his career when he was in for all 72 offensive snaps in Washington's 24-10 setback at Green Bay. The Football Team, now 2-5 this season, travels to face Denver on Sunday.
Briley Moore, TE – Tennessee Titans
Moore, a rookie free agent signee by the Titans this past offseason, was hurt during training camp and was placed on injured reserve. Tennessee improved to 5-2 this season with a 27-3 win over Kansas City, and the Titans travel to face Indianapolis on Sunday.
AJ Parker, DB – Detroit Lions
A rookie free agent signee this year, Parker tallied four tackles and a pass breakup in Detroit's 28-19 loss at the Los Angeles Rams. Parker ranks fourth on the team with 27 tackles – including one for a loss – and a pass breakup. Detroit fell to 0-7 on the season prior to hosting Philadelphia on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
Pringle came away with 73 yards receiving yards on five catches, the latter being the second highest of his career. Pringle has 334 kickoff-return yards this year to rank third in the NFL in addition to 17 catches for 243 yards. The Chiefs fell to 3-4 on the year, and they host the New York Giants on Monday night.
D.J. Reed Jr., DB – Seattle Seahawks
Making his 17th-career start, Reed carded a pair of tackles in Seattle's 13-10 home loss to New Orleans on Monday night. In seven games this year, Reed has 43 defensive stops to rank fifth on the team, while he has both of Seattle's interceptions in addition to three pass breakups. Now 2-5 this season, the Seahawks host Jacksonville on Sunday.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
Making his 38th career start, Risner was in for all 50 offensive snaps in Denver's 17-14 loss at Cleveland on Thursday night. Risner has seen time on 2,351 of the Broncos' 2,551 offensive snaps (92.1%) since he began his career in 2019. Denver is in the midst of a four-game skid to drop its record to 3-4, and the Broncos host Washington on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
Shelley made the fifth start of his career and third this season as he came away with three tackles and a pass breakup in Chicago's 38-3 loss at Tampa Bay. Shelley ranks fifth on the team with 23 tackles to go along with two pass breakups. The Bears, now 3-4 this year, host San Francisco on Sunday.
Elijah Sullivan, LB – Kansas City Chiefs
A rookie free agent who was with San Francisco the entire preseason, Sullivan was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad on September 11. Kansas City dropped to 3-4 this year after a 27-3 setback at Tennessee, and the Chiefs host the New York Giants on Monday night.
Kiondre Thomas, DB – Los Angeles Chargers
Thomas, a rookie free agent who spent the entire preseason with Cleveland, was signed to the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad on September 6. The Chargers, 4-2 this year, were off last week and host New England on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Making his 85th-career start, Whitehair was in for all 66 offensive snaps in Chicago's 38-3 loss at Tampa Bay. The Bears are now 3-4 this season and host San Francisco on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – San Francisco 49ers
A defensive end who joined San Francisco midway through the 2020 season, Willis finished serving his six-game suspension to begin the 2021 season and was activated to the 53-man roster on Monday. The 49ers dropped to 2-4 on the year following a 30-18 Sunday night home loss to Indianapolis, and they travel to face Chicago on Sunday.
