MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2021 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 16 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Dallas Cowboys
In his fourth NFL season, Burton is on the Cowboys' practice squad. Dallas picked up a 36-28 home victory over Carolina to improve to 3-1 on the year, and the Cowboys host the New York Giants on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Back with Pittsburgh after spending last year with both Seattle and Cincinnati, Finney saw time on 11 offensive snaps and three special teams plays in the Steelers' 27-17 loss at Green Bay. Pittsburgh, 1-3 on the season, will look to rebound by hosting Denver on Sunday.
Wyatt Hubert, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
Hubert, a seventh-round draft pick by Cincinnati in this year's draft, was hurt during the offseason and is on injured reserve. The Bengals improved to 3-1 with a 24-21 home victory over Jacksonville on Thursday night. Cincinnati stays at home to host Green Bay on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – Cleveland Browns
Lee carded a pair of tackles among his 14 defensive snaps and was also in for 20 special teams plays in Cleveland's 14-7 win at Minnesota. The Browns, now 3-1 this season, travel to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
Starting for the 75th time in his career, Lockett tallied four receptions for 24 yards in Seattle's 28-21 victory at San Francisco. Through four games in 2021, Lockett ranks ninth the NFL with 333 receiving yards, and his three receiving touchdowns are tied for ninth. Back in the win column after a two-game skid, the 2-2 Seahawks host the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Washington Football Team
In his second year with Washington, Lucas saw time on one offensive play as an eligible tackle and was in for four special teams plays in Washington's 34-30 last-minute victory at Atlanta. The win improved the Football Team to 2-2 this year prior to hosting New Orleans on Sunday.
Briley Moore, TE – Tennessee Titans
A rookie free agent signee by the Titans this past offseason, Moore was hurt during training camp and was placed on injured reserve. Tennessee dropped a 27-24 overtime decision at the New York Jets to fall to 2-2. The Titans will look to bounce back at Jacksonville on Sunday.
AJ Parker, DB – Detroit Lions
Parker, a rookie free agent this year, came away with two tackles among his 38 defensive snaps in Detroit's 24-14 loss at Chicago. The 0-4 Lions will look to get in the win column for the first time in 2021 when they travel to face Minnesota on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
In his third season on the active roster, Pringle made his fourth-career start and first of the year as he hauled in two receptions for 23 yards in addition to returning four kickoffs for 109 yards in Kansas City's 42-30 victory at Philadelphia. Pringle has 229 kickoff-return yards this year to rank third in the NFL. The Chiefs are now 2-2 this year and host Buffalo on Sunday night.
D.J. Reed Jr., DB – Seattle Seahawks
Reed, who made his 14th-career start, totaled seven tackles and was in for all 76 defensive snaps in Seattle's 28-21 win at San Francisco. Reed has started all four games this year and each of the last nine dating back to last season. The Seahawks, now 2-2 this season, host the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
Risner, in his third NFL season, was inactive due to injury for the first time in his career as Denver lost at home to Baltimore, 23-7. Despite not playing, Risner has seen time on 2,160 of the Broncos' 2,360 offensive snaps (91.5%) since he began his career in 2019. The Broncos, 3-1 this year, will look to bounce back from their first defeat of 2021 when they travel to take on Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
Shelley posted five tackles and broke up a pass to help Chicago earn a 24-14 victory over Detroit. The Bears evened their record at 2-2 this year, and they travel to face Las Vegas on Sunday.
Elijah Sullivan, LB – Kansas City Chiefs
Sullivan, a rookie free agent who was with San Francisco the entire preseason, was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad on September 11. Kansas City evened its record at 2-2 this year with a 42-30 win at Philadelphia. The Chiefs host Buffalo on Sunday night.
Kiondre Thomas, DB – Los Angeles Chargers
A rookie free agent who spent the entire preseason with Cleveland, Thomas was signed to the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad on September 6. The Chargers picked up a 28-14 home victory over the Raiders on Monday night to improve to 3-1 prior to hosting Cleveland on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair made his 82nd-career start and was in for all 58 offensive snaps to help the Bears secure a 24-14 win over Detroit. Now 2-2 on the season, Chicago travels to take on Las Vegas on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – San Francisco 49ers
Willis, a defensive end who joined San Francisco midway through the 2020 season, is suspended for the first six games of 2021. The 49ers dropped their second-straight game, a 28-21 home defeat to Seattle. San Francisco travels to face Arizona on Sunday.
