MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2021 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 17 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Dallas Cowboys
Burton, who is his fourth NFL season, is on the Cowboys' practice squad. Dallas earned a 41-21 home victory over Philadelphia on Monday night to improve to 2-1. The Cowboys host Carolina on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, who resigned with Pittsburgh in the offseason after spending last year with both Seattle and Cincinnati, was in for one special teams play in the Steelers' 24-10 home loss to Cincinnati. Now 1-2 on the year, Pittsburgh travels to face Green Bay on Sunday.
Wyatt Hubert, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
A seventh-round draft pick by Cincinnati in this year's draft, Hubert was hurt in the offseason and is on injured reserve. The Bengals picked up a 24-10 road victory at Pittsburgh on Sunday to improve to 2-1, and they host Jacksonville on Thursday night.
Elijah Lee, LB – Cleveland Browns
Lee made one tackle among his 15 defensive snaps in addition to a tackle on kickoff coverage among his 21 special teams plays in Cleveland's 26-6 home victory over Chicago. The 2-1 Browns travel to face Minnesota on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett started for the 74th time in his career and hauled in four passes for 31 yards in Seattle's 30-17 loss at Minnesota. Through three games in 2021, Lockett is tied for fourth in the NFL with 309 receiving yards, and his three receiving touchdowns are tied for sixth. Now 1-2 this year, the Seahawks travel to face San Francisco on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Washington Football Team
Lucas, who is in his second year with Washington, was in for three special teams plays in Washington's 43-21 loss at Buffalo. The Football Team fell to 1-2 on the season, and they travel to face Atlanta on Sunday.
Briley Moore, TE – Tennessee Titans
Moore, a rookie free agent signee by the Titans this past offseason, was hurt during training camp and was placed on injured reserve. Tennessee improved to 2-1 on the season by virtue of a 25-16 win over Indianapolis. The Titans travel to face the New York Jets on Sunday.
AJ Parker, DB – Detroit Lions
A rookie free agent who made the active roster, Parker carded three tackles among his 30 defensive snaps in Detroit's 19-17 last-second home loss to Baltimore. The defeat dropped the Lions to 0-3 on the year, and they will look for their first win of 2021 when they travel to face Chicago on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
Pringle, in his third season on the active roster, made two receptions for 12 yards and also returned one kickoff 30 yards in Kansas City's 30-24 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The defeat dropped the Chiefs to 1-2 on the year, and they travel to face Philadelphia on Sunday.
D.J. Reed Jr., DB – Seattle Seahawks
Making his 13th-career start, Reed came away with three tackles as he was in for all 75 defensive snaps in Seattle's 30-17 loss at Minnesota. The Seahawks fell to 1-2 on the season prior to traveling to face San Francisco on Sunday.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
In his third NFL season, Risner started and played on 42 offensive snaps in Denver's 26-0 shutout win over the New York Jets. Risner has seen time on 2,160 of the Broncos' 2,299 offensive snaps (94.0%) since he began his career in 2019. Undefeated at 3-0 this year, Denver hosts Baltimore on Sunday.
Dalton Schoen, WR – Washington Football Team
After spending the 2021 preseason with Kansas City, Schoen was signed to Washington's practice squad on September 17. The Football Team suffered a 43-21 setback at Buffalo on Sunday to fall to 1-2, and Washington travels to face Atlanta on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
Shelley registered six tackles among his 49 defensive snaps, while also playing on four special teams plays, in Chicago's 26-6 loss at Cleveland. The defeat made the Bears 1-2 on the young season, and they host Detroit on Sunday.
Elijah Sullivan, LB – Kansas City Chiefs
A rookie free agent who was with San Francisco the entire preseason, Sullivan was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad on September 11. Kansas City fell at home to the Los Angeles Chargers, 30-24, to drop to 1-2. The Chiefs travel to face Philadelphia on Sunday.
Kiondre Thomas, DB – Los Angeles Chargers
Thomas, a rookie free agent who spent the entire preseason with Cleveland, was signed to the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad on September 6. The Chargers earned a 30-24 win at Kansas City to improve to 2-1, and they host Las Vegas on Monday night.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair made his 81st-career start and was in for all 45 offensive snaps in the Bears' 26-6 loss at Cleveland. Chicago fell to 1-2 on the year and hosts Detroit on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – San Francisco 49ers
A defensive end who joined San Francisco midway through the 2020 season, Willis is suspended for the first six games of 2021. The 49ers suffered their first defeat of 2021 on a 30-28 last-second home loss to Green Bay on Sunday night to fall to 2-1. San Francisco hosts Seattle on Sunday.
