K-State Shines in Singles Matches on First Day of Big 12

Day 2 of the tournament continues tomorrow in Stillwater
The Kansas State women's tennis team competed in doubles and singles matches on Friday (Nov. 4), the first day of the Big 12 Fall Invite.

In the morning with the doubles matches round of 16, sophomore Florentine Dekkers and freshman Vanesa Suarez were defeated by host Oklahoma State's Ayumi Miyamoto and Kristina Novak, 6-3
Â
Senior Rosanna Maffei and freshman Rozalia Gruszczynska dropped their set 6-0 to Iowa State's Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas.

Both teams were moved to the consolation bracket quarterfinals where Dekkers and Suarez faced Kansas' Silvia Maria Costache and Malkia Ngounoue being defeated 6-2.

Maffei and Gruszczynska competed against the Cowboys' Amber Hochstatter and Sofia Rojas were defeated 6-4.

After the doubles matches in the morning the Wildcat's came back in the afternoon for singles action.

Dekkers defeated Oklahoma State's Sofia Rojas in two sets, 7-6 (6), 6-2.

Maffei met Baylor's Paula Baranano and was defeated 6-2, 6-1.

Gruszczynska went against Kansas' Silvia Maria Coastache being victorious 7-5, 6-0.

Suarez faced Kylin Sadler of Kansas with match scores of 7-5, 6-1 in two sets.

Saturday (Nov. 5) three singles matches will start at 11 a.m. CT, Dekkers facing Iowa State's Thasaporn Naklo in the main draw quarterfinals, also in the quarterfinals Gruszczynska will compete against Oklahoma State's Aymui Mayamoto, and in the consolation bracket Maffei will see Ting-Pei Chang of West Virginia. Also in the main draw Suarez will battle against West Virginia's Pei Ju Hsieh at 2 p.m. CT.
