Thompson Set for NFL Combine
Feb 28, 2022 | Football
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson will put his skills on display this week in front of the 32 NFL teams at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine held at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The appearance by Thompson is the first in Indianapolis by a Wildcat since Alex Barnes and Dalton Risner in 2019. The 2021 NFL Combine, which was virtual, featured defensive end Wyatt Hubert, who was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, and tight end Briley Moore, who was signed by the Tennessee Titans.
Thompson will be the first K-State quarterback to take part in the NFL Combine since current Wildcat offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Collin Klein in 2013.
A product of Independence, Missouri, Thompson played in 45 career games with 40 starts over parts of five seasons. His 40 starts and 24 career wins as a starting quarterback are the most among all K-State signal callers since at least 1990, while he is the only player in school history with 6,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a career. He left with his name in the top 10 of 15 career school records.
Thompson finished his career on a high note, throwing for 259 yards and a career-high tying three touchdowns in the TaxAct Texas Bowl, a 42-20 K-State win over LSU, as he was named the game's MVP.
Monday's NFL Combine schedule includes pre-exam, orientation and team interviews, while on Tuesday, Thompson will go through a general medical exam and more team interviews. Wednesday's schedule includes a media session, orthopedic exam, an NFLPA meeting and the final portion team interviews. All quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends will go through measurements, bench press and on-field workouts on Thursday.
On-field coverage of the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday begins at 3 p.m. (CT) live on NFL Network, and testing results can also be followed at www.nfl.com/combine.
