MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State infielder Josh Nicoloff, who homered twice last week and owns a 12-game hitting streak, was rewarded Monday with Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors, the Conference Office announced.
Nicoloff slashed .467/.556/1.067 with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBI during K-State's 4-0 week. The senior launched a go-ahead, three-run home run in the seventh inning Sunday to help the Wildcats complete a three-game sweep of Morehead State. In Sunday's game, he also doubled, walked twice and scored twice.
A senior transfer from Columbia, Nicoloff opened the week with a 3-for-5 performance at Omaha that included a homer and a season-high four RBI. The Ladera Ranch, California, has helped the Cats extend their winning streak to eight games, their longest since 2014 (12 games).
Over his 12-game hitting streak, Nicoloff boasts a .364 average with six doubles and a team-high four home runs and 14 RBI. He has turned in four multi-hit games and has driven in multiple runs four times in that same span.
The honor is the first of Nicoloff's career and the first conference weekly award this season for K-State. It marks the 10th weekly league accolade under fourth-year head coach Pete Hughes and the fourth newcomer-of-the-week distinction.
The Wildcats finish their homestand with a two-game midweek series against Air Force Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games can be seen on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with radio coverage on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM). Free, live audio is also available at K-StateSports.com/watch.
