MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State's Blake Adams, who scattered three hits over seven innings in earning a victory over No. 7 Texas Friday night, was tabbed as the Big 12's Co-Pitcher of the Week and Co-Newcomer of the Week, the Conference Office announced Monday.
Adams, a junior transfer from Arkansas, allowed just one hit over his first six innings of work in helping K-State clinch the series against the Longhorns with an 8-1 win. He sat down the first six UT hitters he faced and put together a stretch that included retiring 10 of 11 batters at one point.
His efforts helped limit Texas, who entered the weekend as the Big 12's top offense, to just three hits Friday – its lowest hit total of the season.
Adams struck out six over his seven frames, with the only blemish against him being a solo run in the seventh inning.
The Wildcats claimed their first conference series victory of the season and the fifth series win over a top-25 team under fourth-year head coach Pete Hughes. It also marked the third series victory over a top-10 team under Hughes.
Adams shared the pitcher-of-the-week award with Oklahoma State's Justin Campbell while Kobe Andrade of Baylor also earned newcomer-of-the-week honors.
The honors are the first weekly awards of Adams' career and the third and fourth by a Wildcat this season, as he joins Josh Nicoloff (Newcomer of the Week) and Dylan Phillips (Player of the Week). It marks the 13th weekly league accolade under Hughes, the fifth newcomer-of-the-week distinction and fourth pitcher-of-the-week award.
The Wildcats travel to Eck Stadium to take on Wichita State Monday night at 6 p.m., before returning home to host Omaha Tuesday at 6 p.m. Both games can be seen on ESPN+ with radio coverage on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM). Free, live audio is also available at K-StateSports.com/watch.
