K-State Swept by No. 8 Stanford in First Match of ITA Kickoff

The Wildcats face Arkansas tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 8 Stanford on the first day of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Friday (January 27) at the Taube Family Tennis Center in Palo Alto, Calif.
The dual was delayed multiple hours due to weather, as only singles matches were played with the Cardinal (2-0) sweeping all four matchups over the Wildcats (1-2).
Sophomore Florentine Dekkers, No. 1 spot, and freshman Vanesa Suárez, No. 2, quickly dropped both of their sets to Connie Ma, 6-1, 6-1, and Alexandra Yepifanova, 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
Freshman Rozalia Gruszczynska battled hard against Alexis Blokhina in the No. 3 spot, falling 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman Maria Santos in the No. 5 position fought back in her second set but ultimately lost in straight sets to Valencia Xu, 6-0, 6-4.
Senior Rosanna Maffei in the No. 4 position and junior Manami Ukita in No. 6 were both left unfinished 6-3, 2-1 and 6-1, 5-3 respectively.
K-State will play Arkansas (2-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
