K-State Lose Tough Match Against Denver, 4-2

They face Iowa tomorrow at 12 p.m. CT
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team battled against Denver but ultimately lost 4-2 on Saturday (February 4) in Iowa City, Iowa at the Hawkeye Tennis & Rec Complex.
K-State (1-4) came out strong in the first set as they were ahead on four courts, but the second set became an equalizer for Denver and six scores were decided with a match point.
The two K-State points came from sophomore Florentine Dekkers, who beat Andrea Burguete Beltran in the No. 2 position 6-2, 0-6, 7-5. Junior Manami Ukita was also victorious, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, against Claudia Martinez de Velasco in the No. 6 spot.
Freshman Rozalia Gruszczysnka was up in the first set, 6-3, against Taylor Melville in the No. 1 position, but ultimately lost 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Vanesa Suarez battled back in the second set against Britt Pursell but also lost in three sets 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
Senior Rosanna Maffei in the No. 4 spot was left unfinished at 7-6, tiebreaker 7-3, 3-6, 0-3. Freshman Maria Santos lost in two sets 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 5 position.
Denver (3-1) started out the day winning the doubles point, as Gruszczynska and Suarez fell 6-3 in the No. 1 position, and Dekkers and Ukita lost 6-2 in the No. 3 position.
The Wildcats continue play in Iowa City as they face Iowa (2-1) on Sunday (February 5) at 12 p.m. CT.
