Wildcats’ Season Ends in 4-0 Loss to Baylor at Big 12 Championship

Wildcats end their season 2-20
LAWRENCE, Kan.- The No. 10 seeded K-State women's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by No. 7 seed Baylor in the first round of the Big 12 Championship on Thursday (April 20) at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
The Bears (16-12) quickly went up 2-0, winning the doubles point solely on court 2 as the Wildcats had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles spot for the fifth straight match, still down a player due to injury.
Sophomore Florentine Dekkers and freshman Rozalia Gruszczynska lost to Alina Shcherbinina and Brooke Thompson, 6-3, in the No. 2 spot.
Freshman Vanesa Suarez started off hot in the No. 1 position against No. 103 ranked Alina Shcherbinina wininng the first set, 6-3, and almost claimed a point for the Wildcats before the match went unfinished in the second set at 5-4.
Dekkers also won her first set against Anita Sahdiieva in the No. 2 spot, 6-2, but dropped the second set, 6-2.
Junior Manami Ukita competed against Liubov Kostenko, but lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 3 position.
Junior Aleen Quamar battled against No. 84 ranked Isabella Harvison in the No. 4 spot but dropped both sets 6-2, 6-3.
Gruszczynska lost her first set against Daniella Dimitrov 6-2 but was battling back in the second set at 5-3 before the match was left unfinished in the No. 5 position.
The Wildcats finish the season with a 2-20 record.
