MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off a second-place finish in the 2023 NCAA Bath Regional, Kansas State junior Luke O'Neill is ready to face the best in the nation this weekend at the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, Friday through Monday, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

O'Neill is the fifth Wildcat to ever compete in the NCAA Championship and the first since current PGA TOUR member Robert Streb did so as a freshman in 2006.

"We are really excited for Luke and the opportunity he has to play for a national championship," head coach Grant Robbins said. "He has been working really hard all year and it's paying off. He has gotten better and better each tournament this spring, and he has played at an extremely high level the last month. I'm looking forward to watching him compete this week. I know he will do well."

O'Neill is joined in the field by six individuals and 30 teams that will play 18 holes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. After Sunday's third round, the field will be cut to 15 teams and the top nine individuals not on an advancing team for the final round of stroke play on Monday where an individual national champion will be crowned.

O'Neill enters the NCAA Championship with a season stroke of 71.45, which ranks fifth in school history, but he has averaged 70.00 strokes per round over his previous three events. Additionally, his career stroke average of 72.72 would rank third in school history if he had one more round played to qualify.

The junior started to find his groove late in the season as he has an average placing of 7.6 over his last three events after only placing in the top 20 once in his first six tournaments. O'Neill has gone even or under par in 16 of his 31 rounds this season, including nine of his last 12 rounds dating back to the second 18 of the Mossy Oak Collegiate in early April.

A product of Connemara, Ireland, O'Neill will compete on the par-70, 7,289-yard track beginning at 10:22 a.m. (CT) on Friday, and he will be paired with Furman's Sam Lape and Kansas' Will King.

Live results of the 2023 NCAA Championship can be followed at Golfstat.com, while Monday's final round will be televised on GOLF Channel.
