K-State Athletics Communications Among Best in Nation in CSC Publication & Digital Design Honors

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The Kansas State Athletics Communications department was heavily honored in the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Creative & Digital Design Contest, as K-State was second in the nation with 12 total awards including a two "Best in the Nation" honors.

During the last 18 years, Kansas State's publications and posters have garnered 72 Top 5 CSC national honors.

The K-State Athletics Communications Office is led by Executive Associate Athletics Director for Communications and Public Relations Kenny Lannou and Associate Athletic Director for Communications Ryan Lackey. The Office also features Director of Men's Basketball Communications Tom Gilbert, Director of Women's Basketball and Soccer Communications Randy Peterson, Assistant Director Jordyn Ballard and Athletic Communications Assistant Kaitlyn Sanders. 

The K-State Athletics Communications Office also includes the talents of Emily McMillan, Director of Creative Services, Ryan Barten, Director of Creative Services – Publications and Design, Regina Bolin, Director of Digital Media and former Director of Creative Services Josh Strong.

The two "Best in the Nation" honors included: Fall Game Notes – University Division, K-State football and Statistical Milestones Graphic – Fall – University Division.

The three "Second in the Nation" honors included: Spring Sports Game Notes – University Division, K-State baseball, Game Day Graphics – Fall – University Division and Postseason Media Guide, K-State football.

K-State also collected two third-place honors for the 2022-23 women's basketball media guide in the Winter Sports Media Guides - University and the Spring Gameday Graphics – University category for the men's golf graphic.

Designed and edited by Lackey, the 2022 K-State football game notes "Best in the Nation" honors added to the career haul for Lackey, as he has finished in the top three in the nation in this category in three of the last four seasons. Lackey was responsible for the design and layout of the K-State football postseason media guide for the Wildcats' appearance in the 2023 Sugar Bowl.

In her first season with the K-State Athletic Communications office, Ballard collected "Second in the Nation honors for her K-State baseball notes.

McMillan, during her time as a CSC member, has collected numerous publications honors from the organization and designed the covers for the K-State football media guide and the K-State football Sugar Bowl guide.

Along with receiving Creative and Digital Design honors, Ballard and McMillan were named to the inaugural CSC "30 Under 30" at the mid-June CSC Unite in Orlando, Florida. This honor was created by the association's Young Professionals Committee to recognize outstanding young professionals throughout the membership.

Peterson collected a third-place effort, as he designed and edited the 2022-23 women's basketball media guide, which marks the sixth time in nine seasons that the K-State women's basketball media guide has finished in the top-3 in the nation in the Winter Sports Media Guide category. His 2022 women's soccer game notes finished sixth in the nation in the Fall Game Notes category, the only soccer notes in the nation to place in the top-8 in the nation. 

In addition to finishing second in the nation in the 2022-23 CSC Creative and Digital Design contest, the K-State Athletics Communications Office recently collected its fourth straight Super 11 Award and its fifth since 2015 from the Football Writers Association of America. The award is based on media accessibility, relationships and operations.
