
Neighbors Tabbed to NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State's Tyson Neighbors was named to the 73-man Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, following the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announcement Wednesday.
Neighbors was one of five student-athletes from the Big 12 to earn a spot on the initial Watch List for the Stopper of the Year Award, which is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball.
A native of Royse City, Texas, Neighbors was named to the Preseason All-American First Team by the NCBWA, Baseball America, D1Baseball and Perfect Game. Additionally, Neighbors was selected the D1Baseball Preseason Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. He is just the third Wildcat in school history to earn four preseason All-American honors in the same season alongside right-hander Jordan Wicks (2021) and infielder Ross Kivett (2014).
After throwing just 8 1/3 innings in 2022, Neighbors broke out as one of the top relievers in the nation last season with a 1.85 ERA and league-high 11 saves. Neighbors held opponents to a .135 batting average with 86 strikeouts in 25 appearances to earn consensus All-American status.
In 2023, Neighbors' was lights out when he struck out nine of 11 batters faced while throwing a total of 46 pitches over the final three innings of a 6-5 win at No. 21 Texas, ending the Longhorns' 16-game home winning streak.
The 2024 season gets underway Friday as the No. 24 Wildcats take on Cal in game one of the MLB Desert Invitational followed by matchups against Boston College and Georgetown in Scottsdale, Ariz.
