Bernat Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Thanks to a pair of top-three finishes – including a victory at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic – Kansas State junior Carla Bernat has been named the Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month for March, the conference office announced Thursday.
Bernat is the first Wildcat to earn the distinction since Reid Isaac in September 2019, while it is just the fifth time in school history a K-State women's golfer has been named Big 12 Golfer of the Month. Connie Jaffrey picked up the accolade in September 2014 and February 2017, while Christine Boucher was honored in November 2002.
A native of Castellon, Spain, Bernat averaged 69.33 strokes over her six rounds with four rounds in the 60s and no rounds over par. Her winning score of 9-under par 207 at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic tied for the third best 54-hole score in K-State history and was the best since Jaffrey also recorded a 207 at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in 2017.
Over the two events in March, Bernat defeated 22 players ranked in the top 100 of the national rankings, including eight in the top 30. During her victory at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, she topped 16 golfers ranked in the top 100, including Nos. 3, 5, 23, 25 and 27.
Bernat's play in March was a continuation from February as she has averaged 69.50 strokes over her 12 rounds this spring with only one round over par.
In just seven events as a Wildcat, Bernat is now tied for third place in program history for career wins (2), while she is tied for eighth place in career top-five finishes (4). She is one of three players in school history with multiple wins in a season, joining Boucher (three in 2003-04; two in 2002-03) and Jaffrey (two in 2017-18). Her four top-five showings this season are tied for the fourth most in school history.
This is the second time in Bernat's career that she has earned conference golfer of the month accolades as she was the American Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Month in October 2022 while at Tulane.
Bernat and the Wildcats are back in action on Monday and Tuesday as they partake in the Match Play at Jimmie Austin, held at Jimmie Austin OU GC in Norman, Oklahoma.
