Schultz Selected for NCAA Austin Regional

May 01, 2024 | Men's Golf

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For a second-consecutive year, Kansas State men's golfer Cooper Schultz will compete in the postseason as the junior has been selected to the NCAA Austin Regional, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Selection Committee announced Wednesday during the NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show on GOLF Channel.

A native of Andover, Kansas, Schultz was selected as the fourth-ranked individual to compete at UT Golf Club, May 13-15. It is the second-straight year he will compete in the postseason after the Wildcats advanced as a team last year, while it is the 15th time ever a Wildcat will compete in the postseason as an individual.

"I'm really excited for Cooper to have the opportunity to keep competing," head coach Grant Robbins said. "He has worked hard and improved every year, and I'm really proud of how he's grown both as a person and as a player. I'm also excited that he gets to go to Austin and play at the UT Club. I think it's a course that fits his game very well."

Schultz, who is ranked No. 166 in the NCAA, leads the team with a 71.03 scoring average this season, which currently ranks third in school history. He has finished in the top 20 six times in his 10 stroke-play events, which includes four top-10 finishes and a pair of top-five showings. The junior helped the Wildcats tally a 287.39 scoring average this season to rank second in school history only to last year's record-breaking mark.

For his career, Schultz holds a 71.80 scoring average over his 88 rounds, which would be the school record if he had two more rounds to qualify. He has posted seven top-10 finishes over his three seasons at K-State, including a victory at last year's Wildcat Invitational.

In addition to his NCAA selection this week, Schultz also won a local qualifier for the U.S. Open at Crestview Country Club in Wichita on Monday with a score of 6-under par 66. He now advances to what is known as Golf's Longest Day, a 36-hole final qualifier at one of 10 sites in the United States on Monday, June 3.

The NCAA Austin Regional is one of six regional sites, and it consists of 13 teams and 10 individuals. The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional site will advance to play in the NCAA Championship, May 24-29, at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.
