MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2023 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 17 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE – Kansas City Chiefs
Anudike-Uzomah, a first-round draft pick last year, recorded a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery among his 18 defensive snaps, helping the Chiefs claim a 27-20 opening-night victory over Baltimore. The Chiefs host Cincinnati on Sunday.
Cooper Beebe, OL – Dallas Cowboys
A third-round pick in this year's draft, Beebe started his first-career NFL game at center and was in for 62 of the 63 offensive snaps to help the Cowboys pick up a 33-17 victory at Cleveland. Dallas hosts New Orleans on Sunday.
JuJu Brents, CB – Indianapolis Colts
A second-round selection last year, Brents earned his ninth-career start in the season opener against Houston, carding seven tackles among his 62 defensive snaps in the Colts' 29-27 home loss. Indianapolis travels to face Green Bay on Sunday.
Khalid Duke, OLB – Tennessee Titans
An undrafted rookie free agent, Duke is on the Titans' practice squad. Tennessee lost at Chicago, 24-27, and the Titans have their home opener on Sunday against the Jets.
Josh Hayes, DB – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Hayes, a sixth-round selection in last year's draft, was in for nine special teams plays before being out for the second half due to injury in Tampa Bay's 37-20 home win over Washington. Tampa Bay travels to take on Detroit on Sunday.
KT Leveston, OL – Los Angeles Rams
A seventh-round draft pick, Leveston was placed on injured reserve on August 27, but he was placed on the list with a designated for return tag as he will miss at least four games before returning to the active roster. The Rams lost at Detroit in overtime, 26-20, on Sunday night, and they remain on the road to take on Arizona on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
In his 10th NFL season – all with the Seahawks – Lockett made his 121st-career start and led the team with six receptions for 77 yards to help Seattle pick up a 26-20 home win over Denver. During the game, Lockett became the second player in franchise history to eclipse 8,000 receiving yards in a career. Seattle travels to face New England on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Washington Commanders
A 10th-year pro, Lucas earned his 46th-career start when he played 45 snaps at left tackle in Washington's 37-20 loss at Tampa Bay. The Commanders have their home opener on Sunday against the Giants.
Adrian Martinez, QB – New York Jets
Martinez, who in the summer was named the UFL MVP, is on the practice squad for the Jets. New York suffered a 32-19 loss at San Francisco on Monday night, and the Jets travel to face Tennessee on Sunday.
D.J. Reed, DB – New York Jets
Reed, who is in his third season in New York, made his 57th-career start and came away with nine tackles and a pass breakup among his 72 defensive snaps in the Jets' 32-19 Monday-night loss at San Francisco. The Jets are at Tennessee on Sunday.
Dalton Risner, OL – Minnesota Vikings
Risner, in his second season in Minnesota, was placed on injured reserve on August 27 but was designated for return as he will miss at least four games. The Vikings picked up a 28-6 win at the New York Giants, and they host San Francisco on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, CB – New York Giants
Shelley is in his first year on the Giants' practice squad. New York lost at home to Minnesota, 28-6, and the Giants travel to face Washington on Sunday.
Ben Sinnott, TE – Washington Commanders
A second-round selection in this year's draft, Sinnott was in for 13 offensive snaps and eight special teams plays in the Commanders' 37-20 loss at Tampa Bay. Washington hosts the Giants on Sunday in its home opener.
Skylar Thompson, QB – Miami Dolphins
In his third year in Miami, Thompson is the Dolphins' backup quarterback. Miami earned a 20-17 victory over Jacksonville on a last-second field goal before hosting Buffalo on Thursday night.
Deuce Vaughn, RB – Dallas Cowboys
A sixth-round selection last year, Vaughn was in for two offensive snaps and eight special teams plays to help Dallas earn a 33-17 win at Cleveland. The Cowboys host New Orleans on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Las Vegas Raiders
In his ninth NFL season and first with the Raiders, Whitehair logged his 119th-career start and was in for all 60 offensive snaps in Las Vegas' 22-10 loss at the Chargers. The Raiders remain on the road as they are at Baltimore on Sunday.
Russ Yeast, S – Los Angeles Rams
Yeast, in his third season with the Rams, was in for one defensive snap and 19 special teams plays in Los Angeles' 26-20 overtime loss at Detroit. The Rams remain on the road to face Arizona on Sunday.
