MANHATTAN, Kan. – With the 2024-25 golf season beginning next week, Kansas State senior Carla Bernat has been named a Preseason All-American by GOLF Channel.
Bernat is coming off a 2023-24 campaign in which she set the program's scoring average record at 70.90 – nearly two strokes per round better than the previous record – en route to becoming the first All-American in school history by earning second-team honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association and third-team accolades from Golfweek.
A product of Castellon, Spain, who transferred to K-State from Tulane prior to last season, Bernat was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 team, just the third women's golfer in school history to pick up the nod. She earned an individual bid into the NCAA Bryan Regional where she tied for third to become just the second player in school history to advance to the NCAA Championship, while she finished the year No. 24 in the national rankings.
Bernat picked up two victories on the season, winning the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in October with a score of 5-under par 211 and the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in March at 9-under par 207. It was tied for the second most individual wins by a Wildcat in a single season (Christine Boucher – 3 in 2003-04). In addition to her victory at the Liz Murphey, she also finished third at the MountainView Collegiate at 7-under par 209 en route to Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month honors in March.
Bernat and the Wildcats begin the 2024-25 season next week by hosting the Powercat Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, at Colbert Hills. Admission to the event is free to the public.
