Bernat to Compete in Third Augusta National Women’s Amateur
Jan 23, 2025 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State senior women's golfer Carla Bernat will return to Augusta, Georgia, for a third time in her amateur career to compete in the 2025 Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA), which will be held April 2-5, at Champions Retreat Golf Club and Augusta National Golf Club.
Bernat received and accepted her official invitation from the Board of Governors of the Augusta National Golf Club and Chairman Fred S. Ridley.
After missing the cut in 2022, Bernat returned to the ANWA last year and earned a top-20 finish as she tied for 17th place at 3-over par 219. Her performance included the lowest second round in the field at 3-under par 69.
"To play one ANWA Championship as a college player is an incredible achievement, but to receive her third invitation shows how special a talent Carla is," head coach Stew Burke said. "She's learned a lot since her first outing and did a very good job evaluating where her game was and the changes she needed to make to be competitive in this event. Being coachable is a big asset as a player, and it is something Carla possesses. I'm incredibly proud of Carla representing K-State and Spain on a global scale and look forward to watching her and Coach Rinko Mitsunaga improve on last year's low second round and top-20 finish. I know she has the ability to have a really special week leading into postseason play."
The Augusta National Women's Amateur features an international field of 72 women amateurs who will compete over 54 holes of stroke play. The first two rounds will take place at Champions Retreat on April 2 and 3 after which a cut will take place, advancing the leading 30 players and ties to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club on April 5.
A native of Castellon, Spain, Bernat led the Wildcats with a 70.21 stroke average through five fall events prior. She finished in the top 20 of all five tournaments, which includes three top-five showings, including a victory at the season-opening Powercat Invitational and a second-place finish during the fall finale at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
Bernat is currently ranked No. 37 in the National Collegiate Golf Rankings, helping the Wildcats enter the spring season ranked 30th in the nation. Bernat is also ranked 22nd in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
Kansas State begins its spring season by competing in the Puerto Rico Classic, February 2-4, at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
