NORMAN, Okla.- The K-State women's tennis team finished up four days of competition on Sunday (October 19) at the ITA Central Regional Championship hosted by Oklahoma at Headington Family Tennis Center.
Â
During the main draw second round on Saturday freshman Martaa Chogsomjav and junior Maralgoo Chogsomjav both fell short of their competitors. Facing Korina Roso from Missouri, Martaa had a similar battle in both sets with a 4-6, 4-6 decision. Maralgoo stumbled against Nebraska's Conley Raidt, 4-6, 2-6.
Â
While participating in extra matches both days, sophomore Chanel Rustemova and Diana Smolinska both found success.
Â
Rustemova almost left both of her opponents scoreless, against the Tigers' Julie Bedard she shut her out in the second set, 6-1, 6-0 and almost had a similar outcome while facing Annelise Deer from Oral Roberts at 6-1, 6-1.
Â
Smolinska had tougher battles during both extra matches, facing Minnesota's Sofia Pinto first, she dropped the first set but battled back to force a 10-point tiebreaker and came out on top, 4-6, 6-2, 10-3. Facing conference familiar Meriem Ben Ezzedine from Kansas, Smolinska claimed the high scoring first set and kept her momentum for a consecutive win at 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Head Coach Jordan Smith
On all the players getting experience against regional teams…
"It was great to get all of our players competing at the same event for the first time this fall. We're a young group and glad the team is getting these challenges on the court. We competed well at moments this week and picked up solid wins. Still have to get better with our plans in doubles. Overall, we're already keeping up with the best teams in our region and nationally. Which means we're putting our players on the best path for future success in the spring."
