Wildcats in Third Place at Rain-Soaked OU Intercollegiate

Oct 06, 2025 | Women's Golf

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Battling rainy conditions and a delay of nearly five hours, the Kansas State women's golf team recorded a score of 10-over par 290 on Monday during the first round of the OU Intercollegiate held at par-70, 6,005-yard Prairie Dunes Country Club.

The Wildcats are in third place, two shots behind second-place Baylor and three shots back of the pole position held by Florida.

K-State was even par through the first 3-4 holes on Monday morning before the lengthy delay. During that time, tournament officials made the decision to cut the event to 36 holes with the second and final round being conducted on Tuesday.

"Today was a real battle," head coach Stew Burke said. "The weather was not kind with the cold, strong winds throughout. The ladies did a great job, getting off to a good start and really hung in there during the worst of the inclement weather in the middle of the round. Unfortunately, as it began to get dark, we just couldn't finish strong as we'd have liked and dropped a couple of spots in the leaderboard. Tomorrow will be an 18-hole shootout, but the ladies are in good spirits. They understand that they played some great golf today, hung in there and grinded when they really needed to. All I can ask of them is more of the same tomorrow."

The Wildcats, Bears and Gators were trading the top position throughout the latter stages of the first round. Florida turned in a score of 7-over par 287, while Baylor is at 8-over par 288.

Sophomore Kelsey Chen and freshman Keen Visavapattamawan are tied atop the individual leaderboard with a first-round total of even-par 70. Chen, a native of Dalian, China, had a birdie and a bogey on each half of the course. A product of Bangkok, Thailand, Visavapattamawan had two bogeys on the front side with three birdies and a bogey on the back. The duo leads seven players that are tied for third place at 1-over par 71.

Senior Noa van Beek and junior Julia Ballester Barrio – the latter of whom is competing as an individual in her season debut – are tied for 20th place at 4-over par 74. Sophomore Nanami Nakashima is tied for 32nd place with a first-round total of 6-over par 76, while freshman Casey Kang is three shots back and tied for 51st.

The final round of the OU Intercollegiate begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
