The sophomore back rushed for 142 yards to go with his three scores in the home finale.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Sophomore running back Joe Jackson rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns, as Kansas State qualified for a bowl game for the fifth consecutive season with a 24-14 win over Colorado in the regular season finale before 49,549 fans at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Jackson capped a 13-play, 74-yard opening drive by K-State (6-6, 5-4 Big 12) with a 4-yard touchdown that gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
After the Buffaloes (3-9, 1-8 Big 12) tied the game with 18 seconds before halftime, Jackson gave the Wildcats a 14-7 lead on a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 4:32 left in the third quarter. Junior placekicker Luis Rodriguez made it 17-7 after a 35-yard field goal with 10:23 to play.
Colorado pulled to within 17-14 on a second 1-yard touchdown run by running back Micah Welch with just over 7 minutes left, however, Jackson put the game out of reach with a 17-yard touchdown run to cap an 8-play, 75-yard drive with 2:37 left.
Junior quarterback Avery Johnson finished the day 10-of-17 through the air with 115 yards to go with 36 yards on the ground on 7 carries.
Senior linebacker Des Purnell had a game-high 9 tackles to pace the defense.
