K-State Encounters Tough Battles in Two Tournaments

Five Wildcats compete in singles and doubles play in two Texas tournaments
WACO, Texas- The K-State women's tennis team started competition in two tournaments down South, the ITA Central Sectional Championship and H-E-B Invitational.
On Thursday (November 6), junior Maralgoo Chogsomjav and sophomore Chanel Rustemova began the first round in doubles and singles play of the Central Sectional at Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Chogsomjav battled Maria Sholokhova from Wisconsin, encountering a tiebreaker to start, her second set comeback fell short at 6-7 (4-7), 4-6. As a duo, Chogsomjav and Rustemova competed in a two-set doubles match against Maria Alberto and Stanislava Shulzhenko from Iowa State, where they couldn't gain momentum at 2-6, 0-6.
On Friday (November 7) at the Hurd Tennis Center, freshmen Martaa Chogsomjav and Diana Smolinska and junior Margaret Jaraczewski competed in one singles match each, along with two doubles matches in the H-E-B Invite.
Martaa was victorious over the hosting Bears' Luna Ivkovic, sweeping her in straight sets at 6-3, 6-4.
Smolinska encountered two identical high scoring sets with Giuliana Giardina from UTSA, but could not achieve the upperhand with a 5-7, 5-7 score. In a tough match herself, Jaraczewski dropped the first set tiebreaker against Luna Buijtenhuijs from Texas at Rio Grande Valley and could not complete a rally at 6-7 (4-7), 3-6.
Martaa and Jaraczewski represented the Cats in doubles play, in their second match they almost swept Milica Vasiliki Milosavljevic and Ayra Salim from UT San Antonio at 6-1.
Competition will continue on Saturday (November 8) with extra matches in both tournaments.
