Sheffield Named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week
Feb 24, 2025 | Baseball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State's Lincoln Sheffield was awarded Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week honors for his dominant performance in K-State's defeat over No. 22 TCU at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series. The transfer from Hinds Community College becomes the first Wildcat to earn a weekly award this season. Â
Â
Sheffield (1-1), who was named the FloSports Player of the Game, tossed seven complete innings and allowed just one run in his first quality start in a K-State uniform. The Flowood, Mississippi product helped K-State complete the sweep of the College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field, all against opponents featured in at least one national poll and lead the Wildcats to a tournament title.
Â
The left-hander, who carried a two-hitter into the seventh, allowed just four runners to reach base and ended his second outing of the season with a season-high eight strikeouts. He scattered just five hits in seven innings of work with one walk.
Â
Sheffield struck out the side to set the tone early in the opening frame. He allowed a leadoff double in the second but quickly settled in and retired nine consecutive batters, helping the Wildcats build a lead and capture their eventual 10-2 victory over the Horned Frogs.
Â
K-State will return to Texas to compete in the Frisco Classic February 28-March 2, and face No. 2 LSU, Sam Houston and Nebraska. The three-day event begins Friday at 2 p.m. against the Tigers and can be seen exclusively on D1Baseball.com. A free live streaming audio is available for the Frisco Classic at KStateSports.com/watch and on the K-State Sports app with Wade Gertsner calling all the action.
