The Wildcats return to Manhattan with a 4-5 conference record

FORT WORTH, Texas- The K-State women's tennis team suffered another loss on the road on Sunday (March 30) against TCU, 4-1, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

#60 K-State (7-9, 4-5 Big 12) fell short in doubles action, and after an hour lightning delay at #37 TCU (12-7, 7-3 Big 12), the Wildcats were down 1-3 and couldn't reclaim the momentum.

Sophomores Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Charlotte Keitel faced another ranked duo in the no. 1 spot with #18 Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual, battling back from a deficit but could not string together a win, falling 4-6. Senior Veronika Kulhava and junior Maria Santos could not find their footing against Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai, losing 1-6 in the no. 2 position.

Junior Sana Garakani and sophomore Tereza Polakova were unable to finish their match for a consecutive time in the no. 3 spot, down just one point to Raquel Caballero and Tomi Main at 4-5.

Chogsomjav earned the lone point for the Wildcats, successful over Pascual in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the no. 3 position. Chogsomjav is now 1-1 against Pascual, previously falling in three sets to the Horned Frog last season in the Big 12 Championship on April 17.

Santos retired her match early in the second set against Tsai. After starting off scoreless in the no. 4 spot, the match ended at 0-6, 1-2.

Freshman Zhanel Rustemova had a back-and-forth match against Otway in the no. 1 spot. After dropping the first set she was ahead in the second prior to the delay. Rustemova faced another tiebreaker set, the second in three matches, but was unable to string together enough points, losing 4-6, 6-7 (4-7). Garakani suffered a consecutive loss in the no. 6 position, 3-6, 3-6, to Maya Drozd.

Keitel cruised to a win in the first set over Caballero, but had a setback in the second, in the no. 2 spot. Keitel was in the middle a three-set match, her fourth in the last five dual matches, prior to stoppage at 6-4, 1-6, 2-4.

Kulhava was also playing into her third set in the no. 5 position before going unfinished against Main. She had dropped the first set but battled back in the second, 6-4, to force another set with a result of 2-6, 6-4,1-0.

K-State now prepares for the last home stand in Manhattan on Thursday (April 3) against BYU at 4 p.m., and Saturday (April 5) versus Utah at 12 p.m.
