Jun 11, 2025 | Track & Field
He finished 11th in the men's javelin throw on day one of competition
EUGENE, Ore. – The K-State track and field teams started the first day of the NCAA Championship on Wednesday (June 11) featuring the Wildcats first All-American, sophomore Riley Marx, after the first day of men's events at Hayward Field.
Â
Marx earned Second Team All-America honors after an 11th place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 70.71m (232' 0"). The mark was his fourth over 70 meters this season while achieving his first NCAA accolade. This season he jumped his way up the K-State school records, now claiming the no. 2 spot at 72.58m (238' 1").
Â
Senior Emil Uhlin started the first five events of the men's decathlon, ending the day with a score of 3,897 points in 17th place.
Â
"Riley in the Javelin competed really well, his second best throw ever," head coach Travis Geopfert said. "You know, the one thing that I'm really the most proud about those two that competed today is they had no fear. They came out and they're expecting to be in the mix here at the NCAA championships."
Â
Uhlin competed his best in the 400 meters with his new fastest time of 48.85 seconds in 8th place. He also finished top-10 in two other events, the high jump in 9th place by clearing a height of 1.98m (6' 6"), a season's best, as well as finishing 10th in the shot put in 10th place at 13.69m (44' 11"). He also ran his best 100 meter dash time in 11.01 seconds.
Â
On Thursday (June 12) Uhlin will wrap up the decathlon's five remaining events starting at 11:45 a.m., CT with the 110-meter hurdles. The women will then start their first day of action, senior Monique Hardy in the hammer throw at 3:30 p.m., senior Shalom Olotu in the long jump at 7:40 p.m. and the quarterfinal 400-meter hurdles race with juniors Safhia Hinds and Jourdin Edwards at 8:14 p.m.

On the efforts from the men on day one…
"I was really proud of how Emil competed today. He had a great start in the 100 meter dash with a personal best, and then long jump was a little bit off, but then after that, he just competed extremely well. Had another personal best to finish the day in a 400 meter dash and put himself in contention to try to earn an All American spot tomorrow. So really proud of his efforts today, and he's in a good spot to battle tomorrow for a top eight finish… We have a big group of kids where it's their first time here, and these athletes they got us started well and competing great and we're going to carry that into tomorrow as well."
