Jun 12, 2025 | Track & Field
After two days K-State has five athletes earn postseason accolades
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Emil Uhlin was the first Wildcat to earn First Team All-America honors after the second day of competition on Thursday (June 12), along with three Second Team nods for the women at the NCAA Championship at Hayward Field.
Â
Uhlin finished 3rd with 7,859 points in his second career men's decathlon on the national stage, earning his first First Team honor after competing in ten events over two days. A new personal best performance by 71 points, he now claims the no. 4 spot in the K-State school records.
Â
"I can't compliment him [Uhlin] enough on resilience and grit," head coach Travis Geopfert said. "The decathlon can be a war of attrition and he never wavered. Kept battling all the way until the end with a perfectly executed victory in the 1,500 meters. The relationship and trust built between him and coach Kip [Janvrin] is extremely special. A moment both of them will cherish and remember for a lifetime. All American is a title that lasts forever! Earned and well deserved by that young man!"
Â
Mississippi State's Peyton Bair won the decathlon with 8,323 points, while Uhlin was just shy of the second-place finisher, Brad Thomas of UC Santa Barbara, by 29 points at 7,888 points.
Â
The native of Falun, Sweden finished the last event, the 1,500 meters, with a winning and personal best time of 4:22.46. His other top performances came from the field events with a runner-up finish in the pole vault after clearing his season's best height of 5.01m (16' 5 ¼") and he also finished 4th in the discus throw at a distance of 45.10m (147' 11").
Â
Senior Monique Hardy finished 12th in the hammer throw with a distance of 65.17m (213' 9") for her first outdoor Second Team All-America honor. It was her third farthest throw this season to add another accolade to her trophy case, she also has a Second Team accomplishment from the 2024 indoor championship in the weight throw.
Â
Senior Shalom Olotu competed in her first of two events of the week, earning her first career Second Team All-America nod in the long jump with a 15th place finish at 6.14m (20' 1 ¾"). Olotu will also compete in the triple jump at Hayward Field on Saturday (June 14) at 8:10 p.m. CT.

On the efforts from the women on the first day of competition…
"Super proud of our kids' efforts today. On the women's side we had four women competing in their first ever NCAA Outdoor Championships. I'm proud of all of them and their efforts. They wanted more but that's a good thing. They're here to compete not just participate. Shalom has one more event on Saturday and the rest of the group returns next year. Excited for all of them as we move forward!"
