All three of the Wildcats' men earned All-American honors

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Selva Prabhu earned First Team All-America honors on Friday (June 13) in the men's last day of competition in the NCAA Championship at Hayward Field. All three of the Wildcats' men finished the season with All-America accolades, two of them in their first appearance.

Prabhu finished 5th in the men's triple jump with a distance of 16.09m (52' 9 ½"), his second best jump this season. The freshman competed in just four meets this season, starting his collegiate career in Hayward Field on April 18 in the Oregon Open.

"So proud of Selva. You know, his foot was bothering him a little bit, but he was a warrior," head coach Travis Geopfert said. "He just did a fantastic job competing for this team, and he fought, he battled, and you know, he's a freshman, and got a First Team All-American honor and scored points for this program, and talking to Coach [Clive] Pullen about him, we're celebrating these victories. I know Selva wanted a little bit more, but that's a competitor in him, you know, and a competitor in all of us."

At the NCAA West Preliminary, Prabhu jumped his personal best distance of 16.49m (54' 1 ¼"), the no. 3 distance in the K-State school records. Prior to that, he reached the podium at the Big 12 Championship in 5th place in 15.68m (51' 5 ½").

After 21 events, K-State's men tied for 30th place with 10 team points, courtesy of senior Emil Uhlin with a 3rd place finish in the men's decathlon for 6 points, Prabhu's 5th place spot earned 4 more points. Uhlin claimed his first First Team selection after he recorded his new personal best score with 7,859 points, the new no. 4 spot in school records. Sophomore Riley Marx earned Second Team accolades with a javelin throw of 70.71m (232' 0").

"When you look at it overall, we scored 10 points and a top-30 finish for this program, we beat some really good programs and some powerful conferences. This is a starting point, this is a jumping off point for us and you can feel the energy. You can feel the excitement around this team, these kids, our support staff." Geopfert said.

The final day of competition on Saturday (June 14) junior Tamaiah Koonce will start at 2:30 p.m., CT in the discus throw. Junior Sharie Enoe will hit the field at 7:30 p.m. in the high jump with senior Shalom Olotu in her second event, the triple jump, at 8:10 p.m. The last day of events can be streamed on ESPN2 starting with the track events at 8p.m. Each individual event can be streamed separately on ESPN+.

FROM THE TRACK
Head Coach Travis Geopfert
On Emil Uhlin's 3rd place finish in the men's decathlon…
"Emil Uhlin just did an unbelievable job. Just the perseverance and the grit that he displayed was absolutely amazing. You know, he had a kind of a rough day one, and didn't do as well as he wanted to, in particular in the long jump, but the kid never wavered. And then, to cap it off, the day two was phenomenal. I mean, I think he started day two in like 17th place and battled all the way up to 3rd. He put it out there and to win that 1,500 [meters] in that fashion and execute it so unbelievably well, think there's a lot of confidence moving forward for him. So, there's a lot of exciting things ahead. And his first [First Team] All American honor so extremely, extremely special."

On Riley Marx's first NCAA Championship appearance in the javelin throw…
"Really proud of Riley Marx and his effort, 11th place finish, his second best throw all time. He did a great job of competing. You know, he went out here, he had no fear, even though he saw some big marks in that first flight, the kid absolutely got after it. And you know, Kansas kid that's battling hard for that name across his chest and I'm excited for him, he's hungry for more. Talking about next year, and he's only a sophomore, you know, huge, huge gains by him this year. And what Coach [John] Newell has been able to do with him, I'm just proud of him."
