Wildcats Compete in Two Midwest Tournaments

MILWAUKEE, Wis.- The K-State women's tennis team has split to compete in two tournaments, wrapping up day two on Friday (September 26) in Milwaukee, Wis., while starting the first day of competition in Lincoln, Neb.

Freshmen Martaa Chogsomjav and Margaret Jaraczewski have been competing over two days in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Western Racquet Club.

Chogsomjav has been successful in three straight singles matches, winning two matches on Friday including a high scoring three set match. Against Ida Clement from Purdue, Chogsomjav won the first set 7-6 but dropped the second, coming back in the last set, 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 10-7. In the round of 16 she beat Ole Miss' Alice Soulie in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Chogsomjav and Jaraczewski competed together in three doubles matches, securing one win over Serafima Bobrovnikova and Martina Bovio from Lipscomb at 6-4.

During day one of the round robin tournament hosted by the Huskers at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center, freshmen Addison Renfro and Mallory Renfro, sophomore Zhanel Rustemova and freshman Diana Smolinska competed in two doubles matches and one singles match a piece.

Rustemova and Smolinska were victorious in a high scoring doubles match over conference familiars Suzanie Pretorius and Gabriella Kellner from Iowa State at 7-6 (7-4). In singles play, Smolinska claimed another win against the Cyclones facing Gabriela Felix with a straight sets 6-1, 7-5.

Day three in Milwaukee includes a main draw quarterfinal match for Chogsomjav as well as bonus doubles matches. The four women in Nebraska will continue competing against Illinois, Iowa State, Missouri and Wichita State.
