MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State shortstop Dee Kennedy was selected to the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List, as the College Baseball Foundation recognized the nation's top 100 shortstops Wednesday.
It marks the third time in the last four years a Wildcat shortstop has earned national recognition, as Kennedy joins former Wildcats Maximus Martin (2025) and Nick Goodwin (2023).
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented later this year by the College Baseball Foundation (CBF). It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
The recognition marks the fifth honor Kennedy has earned this season. The junior previously was named Big 12 Player of the Week and collected three national weekly awards. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Kennedy earned Golden Spikes Award x D1 Baseball Player of the Week and Brooks Wallace Player of the Week honors, in addition to being named NCBWA Dick Howser Co-Hitter of the Week following a standout Opening Weekend performance.
Through 12 games this season, Kennedy has recorded four multi-hit games and five multi-RBI performances. He is slashing .357/.455/.762 with three doubles, one triple and a team-leading four home runs. Kennedy also ranks second in the Big 12 with 21 RBI and third in the league with a team-high seven stolen bases.
In addition to Kennedy, UCLA's Roch Cholowsky and North Carolina's Jake Schaffner have won Brooks Wallace Award weekly honors in 2026.
K-State (8-4, 0-0 Big 12) will host SIUE (5-8, 0-0 Ohio Valley) this weekend at Tointon Family Stadium, starting Friday at 4 p.m. CT. The entire three-game series will be available on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
