MANHATTAN, Kan. – First-year head coach Casey Alexander announced the signing of his second high school recruit on Thursday afternoon (April 23) with the addition of prep standout Devin Hutcherson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) to the 2026-27 men's basketball roster.
A 6-foot-4, 180-pound forward from Atlanta, Hutcherson was a four-year starter for head coach Mario Mays at Holy Innocents Episcopal School in Atlanta, where he led the Bears to a 95-27 (.779) overall record with one GHSA Class AA-Private State Championship (2025) and two other state runner-up finishes (2024, 2026). The last three seasons (2023-26) the school won nearly 84 percent (79-15) of their games as they captured their first-ever state title in 2025.
As a senior, Hutcherson led the Mustangs to a 26-4 overall record, including a 10-2 mark in AA Region 5 play, in 2025-26 and a berth in the state championship game for the third consecutive season where they lost a heartbreaker to Darlington, 53-50. He averaged 24 points and 9 rebounds in the state tournament, including a team-high 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals in the title game.
For the season, Hutcherson paced the Mustangs in both scoring (19.6 ppg.) and rebounds (8.2 rpg.) while connecting on nearly 60 percent (222-of-371) from the field, including 41 percent (25-of-61) from 3-point range. He scored 20 or more points in 14 of 30 games played, while he posted nine double-doubles. He had a season-high 30 points vs. Woodward Academy on Nov. 22, while he collected a season-high 16 rebounds vs. Northside Christian on Dec. 29.
Hutcherson was the 2026 Class 3A-1A Private Player of the Year honors by both the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association and Atlanta Journal-Constitution/Varsity as well as a First Team All-State selection by both organizations. He was also named the 3A-A Region Player of the Year and repeated as the Defensive Player of the Year. He was a member of the Second Team All-Georgia All-State Team, which recognizes the 10 best players in the state regardless of classification. He was also a Second Team All-Metro pick by the Atlanta Tipoff Club
As a junior, Hutcherson teamed with expected 2026 NBA Draft lottery pick Caleb Wilson to deliver Holy Innocents' first-ever state championship in 2024-25 as the Mustangs posted a 27-4 record, including a 12-0 mark in AA Region 5 play, en route to defeating North Cobb Christian, 84-45, in the GHSA Private Class State Tournament. He was second to Wilson in nearly every category, as he averaged 14.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 23.2 minutes per game.
Hutcherson earned multiple honors in 2025, including Georgia All-State recognition, Georgia 3A-A Region Defensive Player of the Year and Class AA North Player of the Year honors from the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association.
Hutcherson scored 1,835 points (15.8 ppg.) in his prep career, as he shot 59.1 percent (716-of-1211) from the field, including 34.7 percent (44-of-127) from 3-point range, and 63.8 percent (331-of-519) from the free throw line. He also totaled 804 rebounds (6.9 rpg.), 232 assists (2.0 apg.), 136 steals (1.2 spg.) and 43 blocks (0.4 bpg.) in 116 games played.
Hutcherson is a consensus 3-star prospect by 247Sports and On3/Rivals while they both rank him as the No. 16 player in Georgia. He is rated as the No. 33 small forward nationally by 247Sports.
An original commit for Alexander while at Belmont, Hutcherson also had offers from Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Auburn and Washington among others.
Hutcherson is the seventh player to join the Wildcats this spring, joining 7-foot-1, 255-pound center JT Rock (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln/Iowa State/New Mexico), 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward Isaiah Abraham (Gainesville, Va./Paul VI/UConn/Georgetown), 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard Jaden Schutt (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville Christian/Duke/Virginia Tech), 6-foot-2, 185-pound high school point guard Jaylen Alexander (Oxford, Ala./ Oxford), 6-foot-10, 238-pound forward Brock Vice (Memphis, Tenn./Houston/Creighton/North Texas/Murray State) and 6-foot-6, 215-pound forward Dezdrick (Dez) Lindsay (Louisville, Ky./Male/Florida SouthWestern/Oregon).
