MANHATTAN, Kan. – Men's basketball strength and conditioning coach Lee Scott recently earned the title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC) from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) at its annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas.
The distinction is the highest honor that can be achieved in the strength and conditioning coaching profession under the CSCCa with only 380 individuals holding this level of certification.
Scott is in his first season at K-State in 2026-27 after being hired by head coach Casey Alexander on April 14. He spent the past three seasons (2023-26) on Alexander's staff at Belmont as director of sports performance. He was part of 68 wins, including 41 in conference play, as the Bruins transitioned from the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) to Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) while extending their streak of 20-win seasons to 16.
This past season, Scott helped Belmont win 26 games and capture their first-ever Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship.
"My family and I are happy to be joining Coach Alexander here at K-State," said Scott upon his hiring. "I'm really grateful that he trusts me with this area of his program. I'm excited to be helping him build something special here, creating a culture and an environment where people can be proud of the product that we're able to put out there."
Scott came to Belmont in 2023 after nine years (2015-23) at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, including the last seven (2017-23) leading the Islanders' strength and conditioning program as an assistant athletic director for sports performance.
Scott was part of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's back-to-back Southland Conference championships (2022, 2023) in men's basketball under current Oklahoma State head coach Steve Lutz which included consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament and a victory in the 2023 First Four over SE Missouri State. The Islanders also claimed the 2023 Southland Conference All-Sports trophy for women's sports with championships in basketball, tennis and beach volleyball.
Prior to joining the staff at TAMUCC, Scott served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he oversaw strength and conditioning for all 12 athletic teams. He designed and implemented programs for every team at TAMUK, and helped the Javelinas collect conference championships in basketball and men's track in 2014. In addition, the TAMUK men's track team finished fourth in the nation.
Scott began his athletics career at his alma mater Midwestern State. As a graduate assistant, he crafted and carried out offseason conditioning programs for the MSU women's basketball team. He also designed and implemented the walk-on/redshirt football program for the Mustangs and assisted in the strength and conditioning for football, men's basketball and softball.
A native of Elgin, Texas, Scott earned his bachelor's degree in sports and fitness management from Midwestern State in 2009 before earning a master's degree in exercise physiology from the school in 2011. He was a placekicker at Northwestern State (2005-07) and Midwestern State (2008-09), where he was part of a conference championship team in 2009.
Scott and his wife, Julie, are the parents of two daughters – Hattie and Sadie.
