K-State Fans Alerted to On-Going Traffic Projects

MANHATTAN, Kan. – As K-State football fans prepare to descend upon Bill Snyder Family Stadium for the home opener Saturday against Nicholls, please note the following construction projects in and around the Manhattan area that could affect your travel plans.
I-70 at Junction City – A new flyover bridge to span I-70 onto K-18 at Exit 303 will impact gameday traffic throughout the 2026 season. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane about one mile east of the Grandview Plaza area due to construction of an axillary lane to the flyover ramp. The $27.5 million project will also include modifying the entrance ramp from K-18 to westbound I-70. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
I-70 at Topeka – I-70 is closed in both directions between Topeka Boulevard and 8th Avenue as part of the California Avenue bridge replacement project that will run through December. During the closure, traffic on I-70 will be diverted around the closure area with vehicles exiting at the S.E. California Avenue off-ramp and re-entering I-70 via the on-ramp. The off-ramp stop signs will be covered, allowing traffic to flow through the intersection. To minimize delays, motorists are encouraged to detour on I-470 going both directions to avoid the downtown construction area.
US 77/Lyon Creek – US 77 will be reduced to one lane controlled by a lengthy automated signal due to construction on the bridge over Lyon Creek. The project is expected to last throughout the football season. Fans traveling from the south are highly recommended to detour onto US 56 at Herington to Council Grove then K-177 north to Manhattan.
Anderson Avenue – A multi-year reconstruction project continues on Anderson Avenue in Manhattan. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction between Connecticut Avenue and College Heights Road. On gameday, fans should consider other east-west arterials such as Claflin Road, Fort Riley Boulevard and Kimball Avenue.
Fort Riley Boulevard – Fort Riley Boulevard west of Valley Drive to the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive is under construction affecting westbound traffic. The project, which will last through the football season, includes construction of a new sidewalk along the north side of Fort Riley Boulevard and the improvement of pedestrian crossings at the MLK Drive intersection while removing the acceleration lane. Motorists can expect reduced lanes, lane shifts and delays between MLK Drive and Westwood Road.
All parking lots around Bill Snyder Family Stadium open five hours prior to kickoff, which will be 1 p.m., this Saturday. As always, fans are encouraged to arrive early as pregame traffic could become congested.
