Wildcats Compete in First Two Days of ITA All-American Championship

The Chogsomjav sisters competed in singles matches over two days
CARY, N.C. – Two Wildcats, senior Maralgoo Chogsomjav and sophomore Martaa Chogsomjav competed in the first two days of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship at Cary Tennis Park.

The sisters competed individually in singles play starting in the pre-qualifying draw on Saturday (September 19). In their first matches, both Chogsomjav women fell short of their opponents, including a three-set battle for Maralgoo.

While facing Allison Isaacs from Boise State, the senior dropped the first set but fought back in the next to a tiebreaker decision with a 7-6 (7-5) victory. Going into the final set she could not maintain momentum, falling short as she did in the first set with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6 final score.

Martaa competed against Duke's Ava Krug where she could only string together a couple points to lose in straight sets, 2-6, 2-6.

Both women continued to compete on Sunday (September 20) in the consolation bracket, with Martaa earning a win. Going against Abigail Lee from Brown University, the sophomore allowed her opponent only a few points to sweep the match 6-2, 6-3.

Maralgoo faced Illinois' Kimiko Cooper but retired the match in the second set as the scoreboard read 4-6, 1-3.

K-State will continue the fall season, looking forward to three tournaments in the next two weeks. On Friday-Saturday (September 25-26) the Omaha/Creighton Invitational will take place in Omaha, Neb., at the Koch Tennis Center.
