Academic All-Big 12 Selections in the Last 21 Years
The 2021 season marked the 48th year for the Kansas State volleyball program. Despite the more-than-four decades of tradition, the program has soared during the Big 12 era, posting double-digit 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament appearances, top-3 finishes in the conference standings and a consistent presence in the AVCA Coaches Top-25 poll.
Unprecedented Heights Under Coach Fritz
In 21 seasons at the helm of the K-State volleyball program, Suzie Fritz has established herself as not only one of the most successful coaches in K-State history, but also the nation. Fritz has led the Wildcats to 13 NCAA Tournament appearances as head coach, 17 dating back to her days as an assistant coach, the school's first-ever conference title in 2003 and three Regional Semifinal appearances. She is the winningest coach in school history, posting 378 wins in her 21 years as a head coach. In 25 total seasons on staff, Fritz has seen 19 All-America selections, 29 All-Region performers and 66 all-conference players come play as Wildcats.
A Season to Remember
In 2003, Fritz led Kansas State to perhaps its greatest season ever in volleyball. The Wildcats finished the season 30-5, ranked 11th nationally, and won the program's first-ever conference title with an 18-2 league mark. The 2003 squad, led by All-Americans Lauren Goehring and Gabby Guerre, advanced to the Regional Semifinal before falling to 10th-ranked Penn State.
Classroom Champions
All of the program's success has not been relegated to the court, as K-State has received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award 17 times, including each of the last 11 seasons, since Coach Fritz took over the program in 2001. The award, which has been given annually since 1992-93, honors college and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.1 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale during the school year.
