NCAA Tournament Central
NCAA First & Second Rounds in the Queen City
The Queen City welcomes the 2018 NCAA First and Second Rounds to the Spectrum Center and will have plenty of local interest with No. 1 overall seed Virginia, a potential second-round foe for the Wildcats in the South Region, and West Region No. 2 seed North Carolina playing just a short drive from Chapel Hill, N.C., but also a collection of visitors with few local ties. (8)Creighton and (16)UMBC round out the rest of the South Region with Lipscomb, Providence and Texas A&M likely trying to get through North Carolina through the Tar Heels - one of eight teams from the Carolinas in the NCAA field.
This will be the fourth time that the Spectrum Center, home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets, has been a site for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. In 2011 and 2015, the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament were played at the Spectrum Center. In 2008, the NCAA Regionals were played at the Spectrum Center. This will be the 23rd time that the city of Charlotte has been a site for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament highlighted by the 1994 Final Four which was played at the Charlotte Coliseum.
