Chili Davis
- Title:
- Special Teams Quality Control
A 10-year coaching veteran who has worked with special teams units at four different stops, Chili Davis enters his first year at Kansas State in 2023 as the program’s Special Team Quality Control Coach.
Davis comes to Manhattan after working the 2022 season as the special teams coordinator at Florida A&M. Last season, Davis helped the Rattlers earn a 9-2 record – including a 7-1 mark in SWAC play – as the season was capped with a victory over Bethune-Cookman in the Florida Classic. He saw both his place kicker, Jose Romo-Martinez, and punter, Chris Faddoul, pick up first team all-conference and HBCU All-America honors. Romo-Martinez ranked fifth in the FCS with 1.55 field goals made per game, while Faddoul ranked 11th nationally with a 43.3-yard average. Additionally, FAMU ranked 30th in the nation with three blocked kicks.
A product of Chester, Virginia, Davis went to Florida A&M after spending the 2021 season at Washington as the special teams analyst. He went to Washington from New Mexico State where he coached the inside receivers and tight ends in addition to serving as the assistant special teams coordinator from 2018 to 2020. It was his first stint as a full-time FBS assistant coach as he helped the Aggies snap a 57-year bowl drought and defeat Utah State in the Arizona Bowl.
While in Las Cruses, Davis tutored receivers OJ Clark and Jaleel Scott to outstanding careers. Clark finished third in school history with 201 receptions and eighth with 1,814 yards, while Scott earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors and was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Scott was the first NMSU player selected in the NFL Draft since 2013 and the highest Aggie selected since 2011.
Davis, who began his time at New Mexico State as a graduate assistant in 2017, was the cornerbacks coach at Fordham in 2016. The year prior, he was a graduate assistant at Louisiana Tech working with the running backs as he helped the Bulldogs to a 9-4 record and a victory in the New Orleans Bowl.
Davis got his start in coaching at his alma mater, Campbell, as an assistant to the head coach, special teams and offensive quality control coach and as a video coordinator for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Davis played defensive back for the Camels from 2008 to 2011, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the university in 2012. He is married to the former Kiandra Brooks, and the couple has one son, Amir.
