Charles Bachman, who coached the K-State football team from 1920-27, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on January 8, 1978.
Bachman began his coaching career at Great Lakes Naval Station in 1918 and led that team to the 1918 Rose Bowl title and the national championship. He moved to Northwestern University in 1919 before joining the Wildcats in 1920.
Following his departure from K-State, Bachman coached at Florida from 1928 to 1932. He moved to Michigan State in 1933, where he coached the Spartans until 1946. He completed his coaching career at Hillsdale College in Michigan in 1953.
Bachman’s eight-year won-loss record at K-State was 33-23-9. Coaching a team that played primarily eight-game seasons, Bachman’s teams won five games in four different seasons, including a 5-1-2 squad that outscored its opponents 154-61 in 1922.
