Kenny Harrison lettered in track and field at K-State from 1984-88 and is one of the greats in the Wildcats long list of track stars.

A 16-time Big Eight champion, Harrison also won three gold medals and two silver medals at the NCAA Championships.

While at K-State, he won NCAA indoor titles in the long jump in 1986, with a leap of 26-9 ¾, and the triple jump in 1988, with a leap of 56-0. Harrison also won the NCAA outdoor triple jump crown in 1986 leaping 55-7 ¾.

He was named the Big Eight Championships Meet Outstanding Performer in 1986. Harrison was an 11-time All-American and still holds the K-State records in the long jump and triple jump.

In 1990, Harrison was the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award, given each year to the United States’ best male athlete in the field event/decathlon category.

Harrison won the 1990 United States Championships and gold medal in the Goodwill Games in the triple jump, while following up with the gold medal in the triple jump at the 1991 World Track and Field Championships.

Harrison’s greatest accomplishment undoubtedly came at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Not only did he win the gold medal in the triple jump, but in the process, set an Olympic record with a leap of 59-4 ¼.
