Steve Fritz was a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, finishing fourth in the decathlon.
Years before that, Fritz dominated the Big Eight Conference Championships as a Wildcat, winning the decathlon in 1989 and 1990, setting a Big Eight record with 7,924 points his senior season.
He also earned All-American status in both seasons, placing sixth and fourth, respectively, at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Fritz also lettered twice in basketball, playing in 1988-89 and 1990-91 seasons.
After competing, Fritz held the position of Assistant Track Coach (Throws) with K-State until resigning in 2013, then coaching high school sports at local Kansas high schools.
