Coaches: Kansas State coach Deb Patterson (Rockford (Ill.) College '79) is 73-76 (.490) in her sixth season at K-State. Richmond coach Bob Foley (Villanova '74) is 72-68 (.514) in his sixth season. Arizona State coach Charlie Turner Thorne (Stanford '88) is 67-77 (.465) in her sixth year at ASU. Western Michigan coach Ron Stewart (Indiana '71) is 63-80 (.441) in his sixth season.
Series: Kansas State will play Richmond for the first time. The Sun Devils have a 1-0 series lead and the Wildcats lead the Western Michigan series 1-0.
The Kansas State women's basketball team will take its 2-0 record on the road when it travels south for Thanksgiving for the St. Thomas Paradise Jam, Nov. 24-26.
The Wildcats will play three games at the University of Virgin Islands Sports & Fitness Center located in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
K-State tips off with Richmond on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. CT, faces its first nationally-ranked opponent in No. 21/25 Arizona State on Sunday 25 at 4 p.m. CT and Western Michigan on Monday at 10:15 a.m. CT.
The Wildcats are coming off an impressive 98-57 victory over IUPUI on Monday. The Spiders of Richmond enter the Jam with a 1-1 record after beating Virginia, 77-72, on Monday. Arizona State stands at 2-0 and plays Loyola Marymount Wednesday. The Broncos are 1-1 and play Tulsa on Wednesday.
Setting The Scene
St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands will be the back-drop for the Wildcats' first meeting with the Richmond Spiders and their second meeting with both the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Western Michigan Broncos.
Though it will be the first trip for K-State to St. Thomas and the Paradise Jam, the Wildcats have played in Cancun in the Torneo Cancun de Basquetbol (1999-2000) and in Puerto Rico in the San Juan Shootout (1995-96).
Kansas State At Neutral Sites
Wildcats are 114-83 all-time in games played at neutral sites. Included in the all-time mark is a 33-24 record in postseason conference tournaments and a 33-29 mark in postseason NCAA, WNIT, and AIAW games.
A Quick Glance at Kansas State
Kansas State won its 25th home opener with a 98-57 win on Monday over IUPUI.
The youthful Wildcats have been impressive in its first two games, winning by an average of 22.5 points per game.
Kansas State is shooting the ball well, hitting 55.4 percent from the field. In three of four halves this young season, the 'Cats have shot 50 percent or better. Additionally, K-State is hitting 51.2 percent of its three-pointers and average 10.5 treys per game.
The starting lineup of Kari Hanson and Laurie Koehn, Megan Mahoney, Kendra Wecker and Nicole Ohlde have accounted for most of the stats for the Wildcats. Four of five of the starters average 30-plus minutes, three are scoring in double figures, two average seven or more rebounds and all five have at least five assists and three steals.
Freshman Laurie Koehn continues to lead the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 21.5 points per game, after tallying 16 against the Jaguars.
Two other starters, sophomore Nicole Ohlde and freshman Kendra Wecker, are also averaging in double digits. Ohlde is posting 19.5 points per game and Wecker is tallying 17.5 points an outing. Wecker is also the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 7.5 boards a contest.
A Glance at the Paradise Jam Field
Richmond, opened its 2001-2002 season on Nov. 16 at Virginia Tech with a 76-62 loss. The Spiders then rebounded to beat Virginia, 77-72, on Monday.
Sophomore Amber Goppert is the leading scorer for the Spiders, averaging 17.5 points per game. Richmond's top rebounder is junior center Ebony Tanner, who is grabbing 6.5 per outing.
Three other Spiders average double figures in scoring. Juniors Elise Ryder and Cammy Desmond are posting 11.0 and 10.5 points, respectively, an outing.
The Spiders are shooting 39.7 percent from the field, 37.5 from the three-point arc and 66.0 from the foul lineRichmond finished with a 16-12 record last year and 10-6 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Arizona State is Kansas State's first ranked opponent of the season. The Sun Devils are No. 21 on the AP poll and No. 25 on the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.
The Sun Devils recorded wins over St. Peter's, 72-67, and Delaware State, 62-42, and play Loyola Marymount Wednesday.
ASU's top scorer is senior Amanda Levens. The 5-foot-9 guard averages 24.5 points and scored 30 points in the season opener against the Peahens. Arizona State's top rebounder is senior Leah Combs who is grabbing 9.0 per outing.
The Sun Devils are shooting 35.7 percent from the field, 26.7 from beyond the three-point arc and 53.9 from the charity stripe.
Arizona State was 20-11 overall and 12-6 (T1st) in the Pac 10 last season and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to LSU.
Western Michigan is off to a 1-1 start after beating Eastern Washington, 72-56, and losing to Arkansas State, 72-62, at the Moran Realty Classic in Chicago this past weekend.
Sophomore Kristin Koetsier is the Broncos' top scorer, averaging 16.0 points an outing. Senior Karen Deurloo is Western Michigan's top rebounder, grabbing 10.5 per game. She is also the only other Bronco averaging in double figures at 14.0 ppg.
The Broncos are shooting 37.5 percent from the floor, 24.3 from three-point range and 70.7 from the foul line.
Western Michigan was 9-19 overall and 6-10 in the Mid-American Conference last season.
Three-Point Show Carries Wildcats To Second Win
Kansas State hit 11 of 13 three-point field goals in the first half and rolled to a 98-57 victory over IUPUI on Monday in a women's college basketball game played at Bramlage Coliseum.
Nicole Ohlde finished with 22 points to lead the Wildcats, Kendra Wecker added 19, freshman Laurie Koehn scored 16 and Megan Mahoney had 13 as four of the five K-State starters scored in double figures. Kristin Rethman added 10 points off the bench for the winners.
Mahoney and Koehn each went 3-for-3 from three-point range in the first half, as Kansas State took a 55-30 edge at the break. Wecker and Rethman added two three-pointers apiece, as the Wildcats used 85 percent shooting from behind the arc to bolster a 70 percent mark overall from the field in the first half.
The Jaguars led 18-17 with 11:26 left in the first half when K-State started its fireworks from outside. K-State hit nine straight three-pointers over the next 10 minutes to take a comfortable lead.
The Wildcats led 41-25 with five minutes remaining and ended the half with a 14-2 run to take the 25-point halftime lead.
The hot outside shooting set a school record for three-point percentage in a half. The old record of .833 was achieved four times in history, the last against Texas on 1/16/99.
Mahoney and Koehn each finished with six assists for K-State, which finished with a 38-25 edge in rebounding.
Series' Histories and Factoids
-Kansas State will meet Richmond for the first time and both Arizona State and Western Michigan for the second time.
-Second straight year K-State will play Western Michigan. The Wildcats beat the Broncos, 90-81, in Kalamazoo last season.
-Kansas State broke its school record for three-pointers in a game with 15 against Western Michigan.
-Five Wildcats were in double figures in scoring against Western Michigan last year. Senior Kristin Rethman scored a career-high 27 points (6-of-8 from three), sophomore Nicole Ohlde had 18 and senior Shalondra Booker posted a personal-best 11 points.
-Arizona State SID Rhonda Lundin spent a year as the Kansas State women's basketball SID.
-Arizona State is the first of two Arizona teams that the Wildcats will play this season. The 'Cats travel to Flagstaff, Ariz. to play Northern Arizona on Dec. 20.

The Wildcats are 3-2 against teams from the Atlantic 10, 2-6 vs. teams from the Pac 10 and 11-3 against teams from the Mid-American Conference.
Hot Hands
Kansas State shot a school record 84.6 percent from three-point range in the first half of Monday's game by sinking 11-of-13 from behind the arc. The previous record was 83.3 percent against Texas on Jan. 16, 2000.
Hot Hands II
The Wildcats shot 70 percent (21-of-30) from the field in the first half against IUPUI. The last time the 'Cats shot over 70 percent from the field in a half was in the second stanza against Kansas on Jan. 13, 2001.
Five In Double Digits
K-State had five players in double figures in scoring Monday - senior Kristin Rethman (10), sophomore Nicole Ohlde (22), freshmen Laurie Koehn (16), Megan Mahoney (11) and Kendra Wecker (19).
The last time the Wildcats had five players in double digits was Dec. 5, 2000 against Western Michigan.
Kansas State Vs. Ranked Opponents
The Wildcats are 38-102 against ranked opponents and 12-34 in the Deb Patterson era. The last ranked team Kansas State beat was Texas, 72-63, on Jan. 17, 2001. Santa Clara was the last nonconference team the 'Cats defeated (66-64, 12/30/98).
K-State is also 9-22 against ranked teams at neutral sites.
Home Openers
Kansas State improved its record in home openers to 25-9 all-time. The Wildcats have also won nine of the last 10 games overall.
Dishing It Out
The Wildcats tallied 26 assists vs. IUPUI, the most since they dished out 24 against Texas Southern in the Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic on Dec. 1, 2000.
Individually, freshman Megan Mahoney leads the 'Cats in assists, averaging 6.0 per game. In Monday's game, the 6-foot guard had five dishes and two turnovers. She has a 1.71 assist-to-turnover ratio after two games.
Streaking
Sophomore Andrea Armstrong has made six consecutive free throws thus far this season. The 6-foot-2 forward came close to breaking the school record for consecutive free throws last season when she sank 17 straight from Dec. 28 to Jan. 10. The school record of 27 by Nadira Hazim was set in 1990-91.
Sharpshooter
Freshman Laurie Koehn is living up to her billing of being a sharpshooter. The guard is K-State's leading three-point shooter, hitting 11-of-17 for 64.7 percent.
Almost
Kansas State came within reach of the school record for three-pointers in a game when they sank 13 against IUPUI. The Wildcats set the school mark of 15 last season against Western Michigan.
For Three, For Three, For Three...
Both K-State and IUPUI put together an impressive display of three-point shooting in the first half of Monday's game. From the 12:15 mark to the end of the half, the teams sank 15 (KSU 10, IUPUI 5) treys that accounted for 45 of the final 58 points in the stanza.
Additionally, between the 11:27 and the 8:04 marks, the teams sank six straight three-pointers.
Peak At The Polls Reveals...
...Kansas State will play six teams in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and five in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll. Arizona State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Colorado and Baylor appear in both polls.
The other K-State opponent receiving votes is Texas in both polls.
Looking For A November To Remember
The Wildcats are 2-0 in November and have four more games in the 11th month of the year.
The 'Cats are 62-25 all-time in November and last season, Kansas State was 3-1. Ten teams have also gone undefeated in November, the most recent the 1996-97 team that started the season 4-0.
Kansas Connection
The Kansas Connection continues to make an impact on the Wildcat lineup this season. Senior Kristin Rethman, sophomore Nicole Ohlde and freshmen Laurie Koehn and Kendra Wecker (junior Danielle Hutton is injured) collected 67 of Kansas State's 98 points (68.4 percent) and 19 of the Wildcats 38 rebounds (50 percent) against IUPUI.For the season, the Kansas natives have scored 76.1 percent (131 of 172) of K-State's points and grabbed 52.3 percent (34 of 65) of the Wilddcats' rebounds.

Kansas State Signs Jessica McFarland
Kansas State women's basketball head coach Deb Patterson announced Nov. 14 Jessica McFarland of Derby, Kan., signed national letter of intent to play at Kansas State.
Shooting For 100
Senior Kristin Rethman is expected to play her 100th career game this season. The guard would join 37 other Wildcats in Kansas State history who have reached the 100 games played plateau. Rethman is at 88 games played.
Chart Mover
Kristin Rethman has no where to go but up when it comes to career three-point records. Rethman is second in makes (199), in attempts (469) and first in percentage (42.4) in the Kansas State record book. She needs 86 treys and 213 attempts to overtake Kim Woodlee in both categories.
Rethman's next three-pointer will also make her just the fourth Wildcat in school history to have 200 career three-pointers.
More On Rethman
Not only will Kristin Rethman be climbing the three-point charts in 2001-2002 but also the career scoring list. The senior has 850 career points and with an average of 278 points per season, the guard is expected to join the ranks of the 1,000 Point Club.
