K-State Women's Golfers Finish Seventh in South Carolina

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Kansas State women's golf team, ranked No. 45 nationally by Golfstat, shot rounds of 314-310-307--931 to finish in seventh place at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. The Wildcats entered Tuesday in seventh place after an opening-round 314 Monday.
Sophomore Christine Boucher, who is ranked No. 41 individually in this week's Golfstat national rankings, shot a final-round 1-under-par 71 on the par-72, 5,873-yard Kiawah Island Oak Point Golf Course to jump to fourth place. Boucher was in 13th place after the second round of the 16-team tournament and finished with a three-round total of 224 (74-79-71).
Senior Edie Murdoch shot rounds of 80-76-77--233 to finish tied for 17th. Murdoch was tied for 38th after the first round of the tournament. Junior Elise Carpentier shot a hole-in-one on the second hole of her final round, but still dropped to 27th place from 19th, which she held after two rounds. Carpentier, who shot rounds of 78-77-80--235, hit a 7 iron on the 145-yard, par-3 hole to record the first hole-in-one of her career.
Junior Miranda Smith finished tied for 43rd with rounds of 82-78-79--239, while freshman Sarah Heffel finished in 81st place.
Louisville won the intercollegiate with a three-round total of 909. Campbell (912) and Tulane (915) round out the top three. Tulane's Carolin Landmann tied Louisville's Cindy Pasechnik for first place in the individual competition with a 4-over-par 220.
This was the final competition for the Wildcats during the fall campaign. They will open the spring season March 3, 2002, at the Texas A&M Verizon Memorial in Bryan, Texas. K-State will host the Big 12 Championship April 19-21 at Colbert Hills Golf Course.
