Koehn Scored Career High 31 Points To Lead Kansas State Over Georgia State, 93-79

BALTIMORE, Md. - Freshman Laurie Koehn scored a career high 31 points to lead Kansas State to a 93-79 victory over Georgia State in women's collegiate basketball on Sunday in the first round of the Loyola Christmas Tournament at Loyola College.
Kansas State improved to 11-1 overall with the victory, extending its winning streak to eight straight games, while Georgia State fell to 3-4 overall. K-State will play host Loyola at 2 p.m. CT tomorrow in the championship game. The Greyhounds defeated American, 70-60, in today's first game.
Koehn led three Wildcats in scoring with her 31 points. Sophomore Nicole Ohlde had 25 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and freshman Brie Madden added a personal-best 11 points. Koehn also had a career-high seven assists.
Patechia Hartman scored 24 points to lead Georgia State. Angelina Miller added 23 points, followed by Evita Rogers with 16 and Holly Coates with 10.
In the second half, Kansas State had its biggest lead of the stanza, 59-44, at the 14:20 mark after the Wildcats put together 16-10 run. Koehn hit a pair of her game-high seven three-pointers during the stretch.
Georgia State drew within seven points twice in the second half. The Lady Panthers went on a 20-11 run to come within seven, 71-64, with 6:25 remaining, but the Wildcats rebuilt their lead when sophomore Andrea Armstrong scored six of eight 'Cat points to put them up, 79-64. Georgia State hung tough though, working the score back to a seven-point difference, 82-75, with just over a minute to play. Hartman hit back-to-back three's and Rogers scored five points on an 11-3 Lady Panther run. But Kansas State snapped the run by sinking seven of eight free throws down the stretch.
Kansas State jumped out to an early 15-point lead in the first half, 24-9, at the 10:51 mark when Koehn scored 13 of her 16 first-half points. She hit four three's in the half, including three during the opening run. Georgia State then put together a 23-7 run over the next 7:37 to trail by one, 31-30, at the 3:54 mark. K-State stopped the run and went into halftime with a 44-35 lead after scoring 13 of the final 18 points in the half.
The Wildcats shot 53 percent from the field, the eighth-time this season they have shot 50 percent or better in a game, and out-rebounded Georgia State, 41-37.
