K-State Golfers in Seventh After Day One of Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas - The No. 19/27 Kansas State men's golf team fired a 5-under-par 571 on Monday to land in seventh out of 16 teams after the first two rounds of the Baylor Invitational at Bear Ridge Golf Club. The Wildcats sit just 12 strokes back of host team Baylor holds the lead at 17-under-par 559. The Bears are four-strokes ahead of Lamar and SMU, who are tied for second at 13-under-par 563.
K-State junior A.J. Elgert is in a four-way tie for 15th after recording rounds of 71-70 to finish the day at 3-under-par 141. Joining Elgert in the top 20 is junior Aaron Watkins, who finished the day at 2-under-par 142 to tie for 19th. Junior Greg Douglas and freshman Josh Persons are tied 30th after day one at even-par 144, and freshman Jimmy Dietz is tied for 68th at 6-over-par 150.
SMU's Brock Mulder lead all individuals for the day, firing rounds of 66-67 to finish at 11-under-par 133. Chasing Mulder is Baylor's Ryan Baca, who finished the day in second at 8-under-par 136.
Tournament action will wrap up tomorrow in Waco with the final 18 holes of the Baylor Invitational beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m. at Bear Ridge Golf Club.
