MANHATTAN, Kan. - Matt Siebrandt went 7-for-7 from the floor and scored 15 points, while Jarrett Hart topped Kansas State with 17 points to lift the Wildcats past Athletes First, 95-68, in a men's college basketball exhibition game played Wednesday at Bramlage Coliseum.
Pervis Pasco added 14 points for the winners, while Gilson DeJesus also hit double figures with 10 points.
Forward Bruce Jenkins led Athletes First with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Brodney Kennard and Joe Adkins each added 13 points.
Five different Wildcats scored in a 10-2 run late in the first half that gave K-State a 35-25 lead with 4:27 remaining. The lead grew to 42-27 before Athletes First cut it to 44-33 at halftime.
Siebrandt had nine of his points in the first half, while Tim Ellis had seven off the bench for the 'Cats.
Athletes First twice cut the deficit to nine in the first four minutes of the second half before Kansas State took control. Seven different Wildcats scored in a 14-point rally that pushed the lead to 66-43 with 11:26 to play.
The Wildcat lead down the stretch was never less than 19 points, as K-State hit 64 percent from the floor in the second half to even its exhibition record at 1-1.
"I kind of had the same feeling after this game as I did the first game," said K-State head coach Jim Wooldridge. "There were some things that we could pull out of that game that were pretty good. But there are also some things that we are going to have to get substantially better at."
Quentin Buchanan led K-State with seven rebounds, while Frank Richards dished out a game-high six assists. Athletes First held a 38-37 edge on the boards, but the Wildcats forced 23 turnovers and held Athletes First to just 38 percent shooting from the floor in the game.
Kansas State opens its regular season on Nov. 23 at the Paradise Jam Tournament in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The Wildcats play Brigham Young in the first round of the three-day tournament.
