Wildcats Beat The Fighting Scots 73-64

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Tim Ellis scored 21 points and Pervis Pasco added 19to lead Kansas State past Monmouth, N.J., 73-64 Sunday.
Kansas State (7-4) overcame a Monmouth comeback to win its fifth straight,the longest streak in coach Jim Wooldridge's three years at Kansas State. It'salso the longest streak since 1999 when Kansas State also won five straight.
Monmouth shot 29.6 percent from the floor in the first half, compared toKanas State's 42.4 percent. The Fighting Scots trailed the Wildcats 31-24 athalftime.
After a sluggish first half, Kansas State went on a 9-0 run to take itsbiggest lead of the game at 40-26 with 17:37 left. But the Hawks (1-6)countered with a 13-2 run to cut the lead to two with 13:55 remaining.
Monmouth stayed close before Ellis scored six straight points to give KansasState the lead for good at 69-62 with 2:18 left.
Pasco hit all nine of his field goal attempts. Frank Richards added 14points, Matt Siebrandt had 10 and Gilson DeJesus had 12 rebounds.
Dwayne Byfield led Monmouth with 18 points. Jason Krayl scored 13 points,Tyler Azzarelli had 10 and Kevin Owens had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Hawks, who lost their third straight, made 8 3-pointers in the secondhalf, but committed 13 fouls in the half. Kansas State made 11-of-19 freethrows in the final period.
