MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State sophomore Nicole Ohlde became just the second women's basketball player in Wildcat history today to be named to a Verizon Academic All-District team.
Ohlde is joined on the first team by Missouri's Kerensa Barr, Iowa's Lindsey Meder and Iowa State's Angie Welle and Lindsey Wilson. The Clay Center, Kan., native is the only sophomore to make the first team.
"It means a lot. It's a nice award to get. It's pretty shocking and its exciting just knowing I made it," Ohlde said.
The 6-foot-4 center maintains a 3.479 cumulative GPA in elementary education while leading the Wildcats in scoring (18.8), field goal percentage (.582) and blocks (58). She is also second in rebounds (8.0).
Ohlde's name and information will be forwarded on to the national ballot and the Verizon Academic All-America Teams will be announced on March 8.
Gayla Williams was the first Wildcat women's basketball player to be recognized by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) when she earned third team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 1981.
Student-athletes who maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average for his/her career and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing are eligible for the award sponsored by Verizon and CoSIDA. To date, 48 Wildcats have earned the academic honor.
