Kansas State Tennis Team Travels South To Play Texas Tech

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State tennis team will be looking for its second Big 12 win in a row when it plays Texas Tech on Sunday, March 3 at 10 a.m. at the Texas Tech Athletic Training Center in Lubbock.
The No. 48 nationally-ranked Wildcats are 5-2 on the season, while Texas Tech will enter the match 1-5. Kansas State is on a three-match winning streak and is undefeated in the Big 12 with a 1-0 record, while Texas Tech is on a five-match losing streak and is 0-1 in league play after losing to Colorado, 5-2, last weekend.
Kansas State leads the series with Texas Tech, 5-4, and have won four of the five matches since the teams joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996-97. The Wildcats have a 3-1 record when playing in Lubbock.
Last season, K-State beat the Lady Raiders, 6-1, in Manhattan, with senior Kathy Chuda, junior Petra Sedlmajerova and sophomores Paulina Castillejos and Hayley McIver all recording victories.
Sedlmajerova sports a 6-1 spring singles record at No. 2 and No. 3 and is on a six-match winning streak. Freshman Maria Rosenberg is also on a mini-winning streak after posting her third consecutive victory this past weekend. She stands at 5-2 this spring at No. 4 and No. 3 singles and 11-3 overall.
In doubles, the No. 2 doubles team of Chuda and Sedlmajerova are 6-1 and on a six-match winning streak, while Rosenberg and sophomore Paulina Castillejos stand at 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the league at No. 3.
The Lady Raiders are led by sophomore Irina Tereschenko, who boasts a 5-1 overall record and 1-0 mark in Big 12 play at No. 1. She is ranked No. 11 in the Southwest Region. Tereschenko teams with junior Beverly Dawson as Texas Tech's No. 1 doubles team that is 3-3 overall and 0-1 in league play this spring. The duo is ranked No. 17 in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
