Wildcats' Smith Wins at Texas Relays

Austin, Texas - Kansas State sophomore Craig Smith won the 'B' division of the men's javelin Friday, highlighting Wildcat performances at the 75th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
On the women's side for the Wildcats, Queeneth Evurunobi, Teena Clincy and Chaytan Hill each surpassed the 40-foot mark in the women's triple jump, while Austra Skujyte competed in three events.
Smith won his section of the javelin with a throw of 212 feet, 8 inches. He won the event by just two inches over Indiana junior Patrick Miller. Smith's mark was the best of the outdoor season by a Wildcat.
Field events at the Texas Relays are broken into 'A' and 'B' sections, with the top entrants competing in the 'A' section.
Evurunobi finished fourth in the 'B' section of the women's triple jump at 40-8.75. Clincy was seventh at 40-3.50, with Hill just behind at 40-3.25. Hill's mark moved her into eighth place on K-State's all-time list.
Morgan High had the Wildcat women's top individual finish on Friday, placing fourth in the 'A' section of the women's high jump. The K-State sophomore went 5-10.50 on Friday afternoon for the Wildcats. Freshman Brie Madden, a center on the Wildcat women's basketball team, placed in a 10th-place tie in the 'B' section at 5-4.50.
Skujyte, a Wildcat senior who is the defending NCAA champion in the heptathlon, placed eighth in the top section of the women's long jump, going 19-5.25 to surpass her previous season-best by nearly 10 inches. She was fifth in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles in 14.65 and came back to place sixth in the 'A' section of the women's discus at 156-9.
Clincy was 10th overall in the women's 100 hurdles, just missing a spot in Saturday's final after running 13.90.
On the men's side, sophomore C.J. Jamison had the top K-State finish of the day, placing fifth in the 'B' section of the men's triple jump at 49-11.
On Thursday, Roberto Carvajal earned a spot in Saturday's men's 400-meter hurdle final, qualifying fifth in 51.43 after winning his heat. Also Thursday, Rebekah Green was 10th in the women's hammer at 170-1.
The four-day meet concludes Saturday. Kansas State also has competitors traveling to the Emporia State Relays on Saturday.
